Re: Lamy Studio: Simple Swap
Very cool. Why Lamy doesn't offer a factory "stealth" black is beyond me.
It's also timely, as I picked up an Imperial Blue just recently, and was wondering about the very same section swap - and then read that it doesn't work with the blue as it does the black. Should anyone reading this know either way, I'd be very much obliged.

I can't see why it wouldn't work in a physical sense. Now aesthetically...
But I have an Imperial Blue at work and will try to pair the black section with the blue barrel. I will report back.

I couldn't see why either, but that was the only instance of blue plus black section I could find via the well-known search engine, so I took fright. Funnily enough I only went looking from an aesthetic POV. I will await your findings. Thankee.:)

Re: Lamy Studio: Simple Swap
I wish I could just buy a Stealth (black on black) because I wouldn't want a steel section. :(

I can understand why you wouldn't want a steel section. Strangely, I would expect the plastic section to be less expensive to manufacture so why doesn't Lamy default to plastic?
I really don't mind the steel section. I use my Studios at work (robust and cheap) and rarely write for a sufficient length of time that the section becomes slippery...and if I do expect to write for that length of time I will use the stealth pen.

Not only would I end up with a steel section that I didn't want, but I would have to buy two pens in order to make one that I wanted. I wish Lamy would default to the black stealth with plastic section, but I also can't help but wonder if they deliberately did it this way to sell more pens?
Re: Lamy Studio: Simple Swap
Who did that nib for you and put the A on there?
Re: Lamy Studio: Simple Swap
The black sections are available to buy separately so swapping out a steel section shouldn't necessitate buying two whole pens.

The grind was done by fpnibs.com and I recommend them highly. The A was already on the nib as it was an Anfanger (beginner) nib. Fpnibs.com offer Arabic (architect) grinds on M and B nibs, but they ground the A nib when I asked. It is smaller than a B so the cross-stroke is still a reasonable width for people like me with small handwriting.

No compatibility issues with black section and Imperial Blue barrel.
Now I think a black section would look sharp on the Racing Green...

I think a black section would look sharp on the Racing Green too. :)
Re: Lamy Studio: Simple Swap
As soon as Dennis sends it out...
Re: Lamy Studio: Simple Swap
So very cool. As already said, Lamy should be doing all black versions of every pen that comes in black.

I can confirm, three and a half years later, that it does.

Here is a black section on a Studio Black Forest.

I just saw a photo of this pen in this color (with the shiny steel section) and came to ask in the Lamy forum how this pen is from a user-experience standpoint... and I came across this thread! I do love the color, and could likely live with the original setup for a while but very much like that black section.
I know the thread is old, but would any of you Studio aficionados care to expound on the pluses and minuses of this particular model pen? Thanks in advance.
