Interesting Sale at Ebay. Lots of folks not reading the big print.
This watch was posted in a thread at a watch forum and it is quite interesting. The seller (NOT me) clearly states what is being sold is a print of a Rolex and not a Rolex watch. The seller is pulling this off on a musical instrument as well. What is interesting is that the current bid is $4,150. I have been trying to figure out the seller's angle. Is it a legit print being auctioned and the seller knows there are bidders out there too lazy to read the details? Some other flim-flam going on? Sadly, someone is going to feel really bad when they realize they bought a picture of a Rolex and do not have any recourse as the seller clearly states what is being sold and states no refunds allowed.

"private listing - bidders' identities protected"
What does that mean?

All ebay listings are private these days. No buyer's ID's are ever shown.
Re: Interesting Sale at Ebay. Lots of folks not reading the big print.
Chrissy, you are partially correct. With "ordinary" bidding one can see who bided although the actual username is disguised. For example, if my user name was FPGeek and I made a bid it would show a disguised name, such as b***8 and then my feedback score (say 251). The bid in question for the "Rolex" does not show anything so one does not have a clue if one person made multiple bids or if there are multiple people bidding. Below is an example of a non private bid listing for a pair of boots.

Re: Interesting Sale at Ebay. Lots of folks not reading the big print.
This is true. However, at least you can see if the bidding looks relatively normal. With private listings no-one ever knows if the seller is pushing up the price.
Re: Interesting Sale at Ebay. Lots of folks not reading the big print.
What is also beyond belief is the shipping charge of $350.00. FOR A PRINT!
I mean, really, this is just absurd. eBay shouldn't allow this kind of thing.

Absolutely agree with you.
For me this is clearly fraud, even it is mentioned in the description that it is a print.
This guy intentionally play with confusion and that people do not read carefully to cheat them.
I would immediately remove such auctions and deactivate the sellers account.

Is it Ebay's responsibility, or the buyer's? The only time I've been skunked on an Ebay purchase was when I wasn't paying attention.

Ebay doesn't seem to know. Are they really clueless?

It’s a classic print and worth every cent. 👌

On ebay.com the Money Back guarantee is "Get the item you ordered or your money back - it's that simple"
I would put money on the fact that in the case of any "item significantly not as described" claim for an item like this that ebay will find for the buyer.
It's listed in the wristwatches category not in the prints category so that's good enough for the buyer to expect to receive a wristwatch.
Judge Judy once ruled for the claimant on a case exactly like this where the defendant said she had clearly put it was a print in the listing. JJ called the defendant a scammer.

Last week I was raking it in selling photocopies of GME stock certificates.
Re: Interesting Sale at Ebay. Lots of folks not reading the big print.
20 hours to go and the bidding is over $10K. I would like to be able to track this after the sale when the buyer and seller square off when the buyer gets a piece of paper in the mail.

FWIW I have confirmation from my ebay chat that it has been reported by an ebay CS representative. Now they are aware and can't say they didn't know.
Re: Interesting Sale at Ebay. Lots of folks not reading the big print.
The other thing, with higher end watches, and probably other high end products, there is a service at E-bay which guarantees authenticity and this "watch" does not have that service. I really wonder if this is a bogus sale. There cannot be that many dumb bidders for a Rolex. Then again...
Post Note: I clicked on link this morning and it was $10K but now it is $4K but slightly less than yesterday. I wonder if the $10K bidder finally wised up and got out.
Re: Interesting Sale at Ebay. Lots of folks not reading the big print.
Many bids have been either cancelled or retracted. Unusual.
