I have a separate networked pure DOS machine for writing. If I'm in my desktop machine, which runs FreeBSD, I use an editor called ne. I'm not a professional, but I've been into computers as a tool since before the PC and I'm a bit weird. :)

Ted sounds like an ed clone. Yikes!
I tend to write more by hand these days. If it’s worthwhile, i type it up with emacs + auctex. I am a laTeX diehard/zealot and the auctex package is the best tool for writing laTeX. At work i use Overleaf for laTeX because it will work on any machine with an internet connection and a web browser.
I use vim, too, but generally only for quick fixes & sysadmin type editing.

I don't often run across folks that use LaTeX, emacs and vim. Cheers!
Re: How many words do you get on a page?
When I write anything—anything—can happen. Much like a fractal conformation. That completely torpedoes any meaningful word count from me. But I thought you should know that.
Re: How many words do you get on a page?
Whew Emacs, vim, Latex reminds me of my research lab days....
Code was written in microsoft VS while I did alot of editing with emacs on the go....
LateX was one tool I wish I used more often, formatting on other processors isn't the same, plus the other perks like math formulae etc
But back to the original questions, I used to cram math onto sheets by folding them in half then scribbling with a EF pencil or FP.... so front and back filled with calculations...
As for writing I get a good 4~5 paragraphs about and thats around 800-1100 words?
Re: How many words do you get on a page?
I'm afraid to count, 'cause the next page won't be anything like the first...and so on.

True dat. ;)
Re: How many words do you get on a page?
I have a lot more words that fit on one page. I usually use Word to find out the number of words or characters. Unfortunately, you can't see how many sentences and paragraphs your text contains. You have to use a third-party service to do that. I need to know how much text I have when I'm writing an essay most of the time. I need to keep to the set volume to get more points. Sometimes it's not the number of words that matters to me but the number of sentences. In such cases, I use https://wordcounter.ai/blog/how-many...in-a-paragraph. This service offers quite a lot of possibilities.
Re: How many words do you get on a page?
No idea, I went wide when I came back to fountain pens after 40 years in the ball point desert. So I write large, be that with a B, M or F nib. I seldom use EF......when I do it is for editing printed work.
That is small in I have to fit some of it in between the 2 space 'typed' lines....before moving to the margin and over on the back.
Re: How many words do you get on a page?
Depends whether it's the first page or the tenth page.
