Re: Can We have a Civil Discussion about Abortion?
Lawmakers are either ignorant or don’t care about the unintended consequences of making abortion a crime.

It's the latter. They are prioritizing the survival of an unviable fetus over several other concerns, rights, and health problems, and ethical issues. It's pretty basic: either the survival of an unviable fetus counts more than all these other matters combined, or it does not. For me, it does not.

Some lawmakers are prioritizing solely on career/party advancement.

Yes, there's always the matter of winning elections, getting committee leadership appointments, running for higher office, etc.

I agree.
I dislike the vilification of Pro Life groups because there is a moral and justifiable reason to support the unborn. I think when you allow yourself to overlook the value of human life, it bleeds over in how you think of those around you.

Will those that support Pro Life continue to support the mother and child after the birth, throughout the child's adolescence?

Yes, the Pro Life community adopts both normal and hard to place children, plus provides gestational housing.
Re: Can We have a Civil Discussion about Abortion?
If one is simply for abortion and no restrictions, there is nothing required afterwards.
Abortion takes a toll. It is not the same as an appendectomy or tooth extraction. Females go through changes which serve to bring new life into the world. You can’t just turn off the faucet.

Re: Can We have a Civil Discussion about Abortion?
As of recent, Spain allows 16 year olds to have an abortion up to 14 weeks without parental consent.
As of beginning 2022, Columbia allows abortion up to 24 weeks.
Ireland introduced legislation that allows abortion up to 12 weeks in 2019.
Afghanistan just decreed that women have to cover their faces when presenting on tv.
Which direction does your state move towards?
Re: Can We have a Civil Discussion about Abortion?
Since you presently have a choice, I’d like to for you to consider life. There are compelling reasons to consider. You’ll not find out those reasons from everyone you ask. And, you have to think 10 years ahead. Parenting is not for the weak of heart, but there are rewards that nothing can replace.
Can We have a Civil Discussion about Abortion?
Chuck, I am blessed with three kids, all in college now. Could not imagine my life without them and for sure wish this enrichment to all that want it.
Putting a child on this earth should be a happy, deliberate, considered, conscientious, pro-active choice.
But you mention CONSIDERING life. That inherently includes the concept of choice. And that choice must include deciding that a conception does not meet the aforementioned criteria, and thus must include the possibility to terminate it.
Next thereto, I find the concept of deciding fate for another woman’s life unacceptable.
Re: Can We have a Civil Discussion about Abortion?
I heard California is allowing born children to be killed. Something inside me said it is not possibly true.
What I discovered is that a woman who gives birth and the child dies, the mother cannot be convicted of murder.
I saw and held many children in the NICU who were born with Neonatal Absence Syndrome (NAS). There was a law to charge any woman who delivers a NAS baby. It caused much harm to all parties.

Is contraception a right? It’s being discussed.

“Put down your gun and step away……lol!
Re: Can We have a Civil Discussion about Abortion?
This is anecdotal in nature, but a good reminder of the real consequences in some cases of these changes in abortion laws in some states.

Re: Can We have a Civil Discussion about Abortion?
There in lies the problem aka unintentional consequences.
I would prefer the pro life community provide education and assistance. Informed consent is one of my favorite concepts.
Re: Can We have a Civil Discussion about Abortion?
That said, actions also have consequences. Speed kills regarding car accidents. Falling increases with age. Having sex can lead to conception. Mess with sharp objects can produce cuts and blood.
What I would prefer is honesty. People who don’t wear a mask or get a vaccine shouldn’t expect others to make it an emergency to keep you alive. At least own your actions. Don’t expect others to raise the children you conceive. Abortion is not a practical means of not wanting to participate as a parent.
Re: Can We have a Civil Discussion about Abortion?
Roe v Wade overturned. Praise the Lord.
Hopefully people respect the process.
Re: Can We have a Civil Discussion about Abortion?
Perhaps all the Evangelicals will now finally come forward to adopt at least four unwanted children per family.
And, since many evangelicals used abortion, more grandchildren on the way!!
No more sending the 14 year old odd to stay with Aunt Liz. No more hiding incest.
I agree, “praise the lord”!!
