Cleaning mold from celluloid
The pic below is about 12 hours after wiping the nib off. This is with a new bottle of Vinta Heritage Brown Pamana 2018. I've had multiple other inks in the pen with no issue before so I'm pretty sure it's the ink causing this. I've read about potential cleaning solutions for this, but since it's an Arco Bronze celluloid I want to make sure that nothing will happen to the material while getting rid of the junk. Is there a consensus on the best fungicide solution that's safe for celluloid?

Re: Cleaning mold from celluloid
The green that appears all over the feed is the green sheen in the ink. That particular ink is a dense, heavy, green sheening brown ink. That effect looks normal for that ink. It's not mold and no fungicide is necessary.
Vinta Heritage Brown Pamana
It looks like a wonderful ink. :)

Re: Cleaning mold from celluloid
As Chrissy says, This isn't mould, just some residue from the ink - which is one of the heaviest green sheening inks I've come across. Normal cleaning will remove it, and if it bothers you in use, just give the nib/feed an occasional wipe.
Re: Cleaning mold from celluloid
Ok thanks for the replies. I hadn't heard of nib crystallization previously, so TIL. I did know the green was from the sheen, but I was more referring to the goopy buildup. Not gonna use this ink more though, since the buildup was pretty severe. The night before this pic I had wiped off a huge glob of it by the nib with more goopy bits around there.
Re: Cleaning mold from celluloid
Some pens tend to get ink build up like that from some inks where other pens don't. It's all to do with how much ink is in the feed and how much air from the pen can affect it.
I would be happy to trade the ink with you if it was possible.
Re: Cleaning mold from celluloid
For those who see the title of this thread and do have mold to contend with, most of the pen mechanics use Shaklee Basic G to kill the mold. Disassembly of the nib unit recommended, along with a good bath in an ultrasonice, and cleaning of the inside of the pen, followed by a good rinse.

I have mold in one pen and an additional nib unit. I also bought a bottle of the Shaklee disinfectant but I can't find what is the appropriate dilution ratio. What do you suggest?
Re: Cleaning mold from celluloid
Its been so long since I had to use it, that I forget. I'm sure that there are instructions somewhere on the label. Does the label lift for more information? You find that on some products.

Is the ratio not mentioned in Fred's post?
