Hello from Southern California!
Hello fellow fountain pen geeks.
I ran across this site by searching for reviews on fountain pens.
I'm new to pen collecting, I don't even own a fountain pen yet.
I did order two previously owned ones today.
I am lisantica here and I use this name on other forums as well.
I like flashlights, small pocket knives and multi-tools. I plan on checking out some nice writing pens and different papers and inks.
This new venture is bound to become a strain on the checking account, but I'll try to pace myself.
Now to go read some reviews! :D

I have the following inbound:
Pilot Prera White Fountain Pen w/con50 converter. Medium Nib
Pilot Vanishing Point Retractable Fountain Pen. Blue Body. 18k gold nib, rhodium plated
In my Amazon cart I have the following ink, but don't know if it's the right ink:
Pilot Iroshizuku Bottled Fountain Pen Ink, Take-Sumi, Bamboo Charcoal, Black (69224)
And again, thank you all for the warm welcomes. :thumb:
Re: Hello from Southern California!
Prera and VP are great pens. Enjoy and please share your thoughts once they have arrived! I recommend getting ink samples from vendors such as Goulet Pens and iSellpens if you are unsure about ink colors. I got into this pen hobby before samples were available, and have a plastic container full of ink bottles that I don't use
Re: Hello from Southern California!
Goldfish, I did not know that ink samples were available. I will look into that. Thank you.

Oops, I forgot to mention that "samples" are not free, but it's enough to fill VP or Prera a few times. It's better than getting a full bottle and not liking it, IMHO.
Re: Hello from Southern California!
Ahhh, okay I wasn't sure.
So it's not a try before you buy, it's a buy before you buy more :D :boink:

Welcome welcome.
Sounds like you're well on your way. Yes, certainly buy the samples before buying a bottle of it. In my experience some inks don't grow on you and there are a couple of bottles I own that I wished I'd bought the same of before hand. But we all buy and we learn.
Re: Hello from Southern California!
Thanks again for the additional welcomes.
I was hoping my two fountain pens would arrive today, but it will be tomorrow now.
Yesterday I did receive a little Pilot Petit 1 from a gentleman as a bonus to a Lamy ballpoint I bought from him.
The interesting thing is that it was love at first stroke of the pen! That was my first experience writing with a fountain pen.
Re: Hello from Southern California!
My Prera and VP arrived today.
I tried to fill the ink on my own, but had to go view some videos on YouTube.
I ended up using an ink tube that came with the Prera...so I clicked it in and I was good to go.
I had a few errors in filling up the Vanishing Point because I wasn't dipping the tip far enough into the ink bottle....but ultimately I submerged it down into the breather hole.
I like the writing on both....have to test them some more, but both nice pens no doubt.
What type of cleaning towels do you use? I had ink on my fingers on my desk and it seemed I just kept creating ink. I would try to dry the nib, and it would ooze out ink.

Welcome Lisa -
I believe you are going to love the Iro ink. Very nice color and well behaved.
I know you are going to love the pens. Maybe not quite as much as a Sebenza, but none the less.
