Re: A Response from Buckingham Palace
It's bad form to write directly to the Queen (or other members of the Royal Family) unless you're personally known; you write instead to the Queen's Private Secretary - the ladies above. :) If you're important enough and the Queen does correspond with you then you'll get a letter written (or at least signed) with avery hard-working burgundy Parker 51...

Oh gosh sorry! I guess you'll just have to chalk it up to an ignorant colonial. But at least Her Majesty's Lady-in-Waiting was more understanding than you.

You learn something new everyday here. Shows how sadly lacking our traditional education is down here in the Antipodes, then again I didn't do history at highschool so that may explain it. I think those from the US could excused for not knowing after all they did go to war to avoid putting up with monarchical malarkey.
Is there any record of what colour ink Prince Charles tends to reply in ?
I would like to think he favours a bright green or perhaps a violet.

Oh - I wasn't having a dig - sorry...? :) It was just a little factoid, that's all. I very much doubt you've offended the Palace. :) Nowadays proper forms of address, even in traditional ol' England, are kinda a lost art. It's a bit sad, in some ways, I think.
Now you've written to the Palace, why not try writting to No. 10? :D (http://www.number10.gov.uk/contact-us/ http://www.debretts.com/forms-of-add...ministers.aspx)
As for the Prince of Wales's choice in stationery I think it would all be rather traditional with a colourful twist here and there - Prince Charles has a famous dislike of (some aspects of) modernism whilst also being known for being rather forward-thinking (on matters such as the environment, healthcare, farming, religion, etc).

(Bright) green ink has a bit of a stigma here in Britain: it's seen (outside of its specialist uses) as the ink colour of choice for those a few sandwiches short of a picnic - green ink is the go-to for rants to one's newspaper of choice. The Guardian state (in jest?) that they'll ignore any letters written in green.
The Queen from what I've seen uses black; most likely Quink Permanent Black. The Queen has to be quite the pen user: everyday - apart from Christmas Day and Easter - the ministerial boxes ('red boxes') - boxes full of documents pertaining to the running of the country - have to be checked and the contents signed. :)
Re: A Response from Buckingham Palace
I deliberately write in green sometimes just because it has that stigma :-)

It can also indicate a high rank in the armed forces or police force.
And you can start of your correspondence off with " this is a letter ill-written in green ink" (-Kingsley Amis’s Lucky Jim)

I have actually written something similar to a friend :-)
Re: A Response from Buckingham Palace
I suppose if you were to send HRH, Prince Charles or any other Royal a letter addressed ink green ink it would go straight into the bin.
Re: A Response from Buckingham Palace
