The other question for this month
I almost invariably hold the cap still and rotate the pen, whether capping or uncapping.
Pen
Same as above. Another cap-related question: how many turns required to secure the cap to the pen? Some pens I own are "secure" after a mere 1/3 turn or so. (Of course this closure is *not* secure, as it is too easy for the cap and pen to separate.) This phenomenon has been known to ruin a shirt or two.
Thought I twisted both cap and barrel away from each other but discovered after checking that I'm the same as you and Deb. The cap stays still in my left hand. Not generally a rapid barrel spinner, though.
Two hands: hold the cap and turn the pen.
One hand: hold the pen and turn the cap with the thumb and index fingers.
Me too: I hold the cap and turn the pen.
Hold the cap, turn the pen. It's easier to control that way.
Initially I twist both at the same time, which is enough for some pens. The more blessed with threading then proceed with cap held and barrel turned to complete the task. Re-capping is strictly a cap-held, barrel-turned affair.
And I can't believe I just spent time analysing how I uncap a pen.
Both... I'm right handed. The left hand holds the cap, right hand turns the barrel, left hand pulls the cap away. Left hand lowers the cap onto the pen, right hand rotates the barrel and applies the torque to tighten.
I'm right handed, and hold the cap in my left, turning the pen in my right , then pulling the pen away from the cap rather than the other way round - Same with capping the pen, the right hand does all the movement , the left holding the cap is static
Another right-hander here, making the left hand do the heavy lifting (twisting).
I'm certain I have done, and continue to do it, every possible way and variation known to our species.
The world is burning down, physically and otherwise, and we are talking about cap screwing. All is lost.
When I tried it just now, I found myself twisting pen body and cap away from each other to start, and continuing by just turning the cap.
Since I never really thought about it before, I have no idea if I've been doing it that way consistently, or if the asking of the question has made me do it differently than would otherwise have been the case.
I always turn the cap (with the left hand) and hold the pen with the right (no turning).
