I wouldn’t worry about authenticity. There aren’t going to be many of these with papers after near 70 years and that star will be yellowed. There’s little point in faking a 142 when you could go through the same effort and get a lot more money with a fake 149. Either would be unlikely since the telescoping piston mechanism is one of the key features of the fifties 14x pens. Anyone who could make a telescopic piston could make their own pens and sell them for a lot of money.
I would be concerned with condition and functionality. Does the piston work? Have parts been replaced? What about cracks? Shrinkage?
Thank you for response.. Have attached pics from the vendor.. nib is original and pen is in working condition. The cap has a crack ; but is functional...
It’s not a great bargain when you consider the condition. Maybe not a total rip-off, either but unless i really needed a 1950s MB and wanted to spend as little as possible, i’d probably pass it up or try to bargain the price down.
There was a nicer one listed in the For Sale listings here. I think it’s still available.
