Help me identify please..
Hey guys and gals..
A girlfriend of mine recently had an uncle pass away. Long story short, she wasn't close to him and he turned out to be a hoarder. They were able to grab a few things before the place was condemned.
Anyway, she knows I like fountain pens - but didn't see any of those, so she grabbed me this.
Could someone chime in and let me know what it is exactly? I'm NOT particularly a fan of ballpoint pens, so she might have to go.
So, it's the twist type of ballpoint. The "cap" part has a flat spot on it that says '925'. I can't see any other marks (besides Montblanc Meisterstuck) on the band or clip or anything.
It seems old, but maybe that's just the patina talking.
Thanks!
Shawn

Re: Help me identify please..
Welcome home. Pull up a stump and set a spell. It appears to be a Sterling silver Montblanc Solitaire ballpoint.
Re: Help me identify please..
Thanks for the warm welcome. How old do you think it might be?
Re: Help me identify please..
After trying to look it up, all the examples I see online have the 925 toward the bottom, down near the band.
My 925 is at the top, with no other markings.
Any help as far as age?

Re: Help me identify please..
You probably all know this, but the 925 is the mark of sterling silver - 925 parts in 1000. I think that like British hallmarks, it could be stamped anywhere on the item.
Re: Help me identify please..
You have quite a nice ballpoint. The less common barley pattern (compared to the pinstripe) in sterling is no longer offered new, yet it remains in demand. If there are no dings or dents, it should fetch $200-$300 dollars at a pen show, perhaps more online if presented well.
Re: Help me identify please..
Montblanc introduced their "Meisterstück Solitaire collection" in 1986 and serial numbers started being placed on clip bands in 1992.
So your Silver Solitaire Barley Ballpoint would have been made between those two dates. Probably earlier rather than later.
Re: Help me identify please..
Wow. Thanks everyone.
I'm not a big ballpoint fan, so hopefully I can get some kind of gel insert for it.
It didn't have a spring near the tip, but I put another spring in there and now the pen retracts fine. When I got it, it would come out, but not retract without pushing it back in.
Now with the spring, it pops back in nicely.
Anyone know an easy (and affordable) way to get a gel insert that would fit? (I've tried all my refills I have laying around, and none really fit whatsoever)
The cartridge it came with says 'Montblanc GIANT' on it.
Thanks again everyone. Much appreciated!!
Maybe I can trade it for a MB 146 or something. I used to have one, but it was lost in the shuffle.

Monteverde makes gel/rollerball cartridges that work for Montblanc ball point pens. Just for example, I think this works: http://www.monteverdepens.com/new_re...html#montblanc
