Re: DIY Leather Case for Pen
Not my field of expertise, but they look great to me. Very professional. :clap2:
Re: DIY Leather Case for Pen
They look like excellent pen pouches to me and I would happily buy one if I could. :)
Re: DIY Leather Case for Pen
Really well done, I especially like the look of the top case, so classic. May I ask what sewing machine you are using? I have a few vintage Singer's and have only sewn leather on a 99k handcrank so far.
Re: DIY Leather Case for Pen
They all look really good :)

Thanks for the feedback tscweaves!
I did try to sew with a sewing machine first:
The pouch #3 with the silver Crown pen on it, was my first attempt. I tried sewing it with a singer 268 (from 1980's).
The sewing process was quite ok, the machine did not have problems with punching the leather (3mm total). The problem was with the curved part, and I couldn't keep it consistent.
You can notice that on the pictures. In the end, I removed the stitches, increased the holes and sewed manually.
Bottom line is: I don't have sewing machine skills enough to do this (yet).
The pouches #1 and #2 were manually sewed:
I used this tool to punch the holes. Then sewed with waxed line and needle.
Best regards.
Walter

Thank you for the feedback all!
There is a lot to learn but in the end what counts is the journey. :)
Best regards.

Your cases are really well stitched! I totally stink at handsewing, it is one of my banes! Cool punch tools. I have a leather punch that has a number of punches on a wheel that rotate and then squeezes like a pliers. I can see that the punch you used is much better for uniform holes. Thanks for the information.

The tool helps a lot, the punch tool you refer too won't give you consistent lines, I bet that's why you don't like your stitching. The punch tool from the link I posted will do 2 things for you:
1. Your straight lines will be straight, with same dimmension and same spacing.
2. It makes the hole in a way that the stitches will be "kind" of zig-zag making them look good.
While stitching you are always looking for consistence. Same spacing between holes, straight lines, etc. It doesn't matter so much how you stitch, as long as you use the same exact process on every stitch it will look ok :).
Thanks!
Walter

Wow! This is great! I am so impressed that you made a wood form as well, great thinking😃 You seem to work very well with leather and I really like the pen cases you are making.

Thanks for the feedbck!
I have to be honest and say these are still looking like they were hand made, can't get a perfect finish yet. But from another hand, its getting better, so I'm happy with the results.
Just in case someone wants to try it out, I'm attaching the "blueprints" that you can print and make your molds.
Attachment 55108
Attachment 55109
Remarks:
- Both models were made and tested.
- Remember to check the scale when printing. If you print 1:1 on A4 paper it should work well.
- If your printer is like mine and have the largest margin in the bottom, you may want to print upside down (vertical mirror).
Here is a picture of the two models built.

Have fun!
Best Regards,
Walter

You actually have to, because to make the leather form properly you soak it in wather, then you put it over the mold and then into the oven with mild heat. It will stiffen and keep its new form until wet again.
Here is an example:
