No way to carry pens...
https://i.imgur.com/Rwwn3yXl.jpg
This is the poor collection of pens that I use (and indeed is all the pens I have). The approximate lengths, from left to right, are:
Dartmoor custom pen 15.5cm
Lave explosion pen 15.2cm
Bexley Prometheus 14cm
Pilot CH912 14cm
Waterman 52 14cm
Pilot Custom 823 14.8cm
Lamy 2000 13.8cm
Why am I posting this? Well, the leather pen case on the right is an old 2-pen Pelikan case. At the moment it contains the 823 and L2000, though the 823 is a bit of a stretch.
I would prefer to have a 3 pen case, and one that actually accommodates any of these pens more easily. BTW the Bexley is too fat for the case, but will likely get flogged off soon, so I'm not bothered by carrying that one.
Sadly I did have a single pen case from my63, but I cannot find it and fear I may have lost it somewhere.
Anywho, recommendations would be appreciated.

Re: No way to carry pens...
Try pen wraps. I have a Levenger 5 pen wrap that I use to carry my inked pens.
-
Re: No way to carry pens...
Agreed, I use a wrap as well, fit's 6 pens comfortably.
Mine is a Saki P-661. I like the look of it - a bit like a Japanese kimono :)
For an office-environment it's perfectly well suited, probably too less protection for university or school.
-
Re: No way to carry pens...
I've thought about pen wraps but not sure of the level of protection they provide.
-
Re: No way to carry pens...
My Levenger wrap is leather outside and cloth inside.
-
Re: No way to carry pens...
I carry my wrap inside my Backpack.
I mostly care that the pens don't scratch each other and don't get damaged inside the backpack. For this purpose, the wrap works fine.
Once I'm in the office the wrap is usually open on my desk, and I put my pen(s) on top, when I'm not writing.
I wouldn't carry the wrap by itself though (without a backpack...), I'd worry it would open or a pen could slip out.
It really depends how and where you carry the pens.

Re: No way to carry pens...
I have a three pen zippered leather case from Galen that is really wonderful. It provides better protection than a pen wrap.

Re: No way to carry pens...
Okay, good to know. I use a Tom Bihn Maker's bag for work stuff. Whatever pen case I use will fit into one of the organisational slots in the bag. Beyond that the pens generally stay in my office.

Re: No way to carry pens...
... here's another supporter of wraps; since you have seven pens, a Franklin-Christoph 7-pen-roll accommodates 7, and my pens are living quite well in one. my biggest pens are my LAMY "aion" fps, and they fit well (i think they are about as big as an 823). i never had a problem with a pen getting scratched and since the pens support each other when wrapped, it all makes for a rather sturdy package...
p.s. the 7-pen-roll in canvas or suit fabric is $35.-, in nappa leather it's just south of $50.-, i have used the grey suit version for over 2 years, and pretty much daily, and it looks like new.

Re: No way to carry pens...
Sorry, I should have been clearer. The case isn't to carry all the pens, only 3 at a time.
@carlos.q, I've looked at those online (and I have one of their notebook covers), but there are two things of concern here - one, that there are reports of the leather dye staining the pens, and two, as in your picture they take small pens okay but a couple of my pens will not fit.

Re: No way to carry pens...
Nock Sinclair might work. I think the flap on a Nock Lookout might be a little too short to close over your largest pen.
-
Re: No way to carry pens...
That's an interesting suggestion. How gentle is the nylon interior on the pens?
-
Re: No way to carry pens...
I've had no qualms about it, even with nicer pens. It feels smooth and pliable.
If you prefer plush linings, perhaps something from Rickshaw Bags?
-
Re: No way to carry pens...
I know the conversation moved away from pen wraps but I wanted to add my 2¢. I bought the Levenger wrap a while back and quickly learned to really dislike it. It didn’t have a flap over the top of the wrap so pens could (and did) easily fall out the top. It looks like the recent version may have fixed this problem but if not the wrap is practically worthless.
-
Re: No way to carry pens...
Which reminds me, EXBPens makes (used to make? haven't seen anything listed in a while), three-pen wraps.
-
Re: No way to carry pens...
When I first started looking I was attracted to the Nagasawa 5 pen leather roll. Alas, it's $100, nice though it is. I will look into some of the suggestions here, so thanks for those.

Re: No way to carry pens...
Glad your trip is shaping up for you. I can't help you with any pen caring options, though. I don't have anything like that.

Re: No way to carry pens...
Pilot has some nice wraps. They have five slots, two of them wider than then rest.

Re: No way to carry pens...
The ateliers Penelope "tool pouches" are exceptional. Really great canvas that becomes softer as you use it. Put some canvas wax on it and it becomes water resistant / proof. It will hold 3 pens separated or 4 pens and a Field Notes size notebook or a Moleskine 3x5. If you don't care about separating your pens I have had 14 pens in it including the zipper pocket. I have also used some felt draw string pen sleeves to protect pens that aren't separated including utilizing the notebook pocket and that works well also.
They are a bit pricey, but will last a lifetime and patina with age.

My recommendation as well. It very easily holds three pens, and if you don't put a small notebook into the notebook pocket it'll carry another three or four pens. My longest pen is a Nakaya Neo Standard and it fits just fine.

Re: No way to carry pens...
Kinda leaning in that direction - mainly on price though, as I would much prefer a leather holder. It's not a deal breaker, just the realities of cashflow.

I see you're in the USA. Where did you order yours? Seems the Ateliers Penelope brand is quite popular in Japan.

I really like the Nock Sinclair too. The other favorite if you want something that holds more is Rickshaw.

Re: No way to carry pens...
I use a Saki P-666 roll, and love it. Highly recommended. I had tried the P-661 before, and that one I do not like as well, because the pen slots are so short that the clips of the pens just barely reach far enough to grab the material. No such problem with P-666, and it's bombproof as far as protection is concerned.

Re: No way to carry pens...
Just found this in the back of a drawer. I had completely forgotten about it.

Re: No way to carry pens...
I have a Ducati 3 pen case that easily holds a MB 149 sized pen. It has a removable inner tray that makes retrieving the pens easy. They were available on Amazon for a while but I think color choices were limited. https://www.instagram.com/p/BpZpXMWl...=1kgu0lng1lv61

Re: No way to carry pens...
Glad you found your lost pen wrap. I don’t have a Nook case, but I have several Rickshaw Bag hand rolls and Hemingway wraps that kept my urushi and maki-e pens safe when I went to the Baltimore pen show. The interior is so soft I don’t worry about my high end pens rubbing and in a backpack or purse the rolls provide enough protection that I didn’t worry about shoving my backpack under the seat during my flights. I use them flat in my desk drawer for storage when I’m home.

Re: No way to carry pens...
If you are still interested in a leather case, check out the Wancher 3 pen case. Very solidly built and, last time I checked, they always had one up with no reserve on eBay so a little patience can reward you with quite the deal. I picked one up but later replaced it with a Visconti, but my wife has been using it as her daily carry case ever since.

Just saw this. Looks like they have three-pen cases too.

Re: No way to carry pens...
If it hasn’t been suggested yet, a Franklin Christoph Penvalope is a great choice. I have a 3 pen one that I carry in my bag. I have a custom leather sleeve to carry one pen for EDC. I plan on getting a bigger penvalope to carry the rest of my collection.
My humble collection. My pen carrying sleeves and cases are pictured as well.

That case is interesting. I never seen one like that before. Can you provide a link to it? I can’t seem to find it in Amazon.

Re: No way to carry pens...
Slight necro.
The pen wrap served me well during Autumn when I was using a wonderful Tom Bihn Maker's bag for work. Now that Winter has stomped in though I have swapped to using an Osprey Quasar backpack for security in the event of an icy mishap. Unfortunately the Osprey does not have any rigidity to it, and so I get the feeling that the pen wrap is not going to be all that protective under the circumstances.
Choices:
1. Get a hard case - like the FC Penvelope (though shipping + price makes me wince a bit).
2. Change my pen using habits and don't bother carrying more than 2 pens to work.

Re: No way to carry pens...
In the very old days (70s) my dad brought me a case, which was similar to the one CarlosQ showed, but had metal on the outside with the 1974 WC logo
That thing lasted from 1st grade all the way through college
Looking online what about this 3 pen case?
You can also consider a tin-case and add some sponge inserts to keep the pens from moving

Franklin-Christoph was going to be my suggestion as well. Maybe worth looking at their pens? They ship internationally for free on orders of $100.
As a side note, your humble collection is very nice. :)

Yeah, I like the look of the Galen cases but, from reviews, I gather that they are not suitable for very large pens.

Re: No way to carry pens...
I hired a seamstress to sew me a simple dress with a pen pocket on the skirt. Yes, I must take a photo to show this stroke-of-genius solution to no pockets. (Solution: Pocket Commissioned pocket, yeah.)

Re: No way to carry pens...
For the moment I use single pen sleves or covers. I mostly carry two or three pens at most. They come in all sizes and various kinds of material, cotton, polyester velvet, leather,... Leather is more resistant to dust and grime but I like fabric too. If you have a bag with a suitable compartment they can stay there with out being scratched and doesn't bulk up too much. I have kept my nice pens in basic pen(cil) pouches and cases too, protected by a single sleeve. If you have an odd size pen you can even make one.
