How to glue Sheaffer Prelude, cap sleeve?

This happened a week ago.

Do I use superglue or is there any special procedure to do... Thanks...

It is not glued in place but rather simply force fit.

I tried force fitting it several times. Every time I pull the pen, out comes the sleeve :)

Then it's time for a new inner cap. And of course to make sure it's not one of the brazillion fake preludes out there.

I cut a Prelude cap apart a couple of years ago to see how Sheaffer put it together. The inner cap on a Prelude is supposed to be riveted in at the top. There is no way to repair a Prelude cap.... If the inner cap comes out like that, then something has already broken - like right at the top.

Given that Sheaffer didn't intend that it come apart, but rather that it be replaced, I have no problems with using an epoxy to secure the inner cap. Scuff up the outside of the inner cap with 120 grit sand paper first. Apply the epoxy towards the forward end of the inner cap (don't put it on too thick), and press it home with firm pressure. Use alcohol to clean up any extra epoxy that may come out right away. Let it harden over night. Most data sheets say that full strength is reached in 24 hours at room temperature i.e. 70F. If you can hold it up between 100F and120F, it will harden to full strength in a much shorter time, how much shorter depends on how warm. Don't go over 120F.

I would also prefer an epoxy rather than superglue. Would the recommendation be for a two-part epoxy? If so, which one do you recommend?

Epoxy (do you call it Araldite, or is that a brand?) is by nature a two part adhesive. I don't know what brands are available in the UK. Most any would work, I would think. The key is scuffing up the outside of the inner cap, and maybe the inside of the barrel. Clean both parts with denatured alcohol, and make sure that all of it has evaporated before gluing. A little heat from a hair dryer will help.

Thank you Ron. :) Yes Araldite is a brand here in the UK. Araldite two part epoxy comes as standard and rapid (for dry times) When I used to restore ceramics I used Araldite 2020 and still have some that I rarely use.

I just wanted to post an update.
I sanded the plastic sleeve and glued it, however, it seems that I didn't mix up well the epoxy, so I had to redo it.
However, after that the bronze sleeve came out.. so I glued that too.
Problem solved...

Everything in working order now.
