just some pen pics from time to time...
I was looking for a thread to show some pen pics from time to time on FPG and decided to start it here in the photo sub forum.

Christof, my nephew will definitely wants to visit your house for this creative lego set! Can your tiny manufacture make a stub nib pen for me :applause:

christof, amazing imaginative pictures. More, please!

Re: just some pen pics from time to time...
I finally found a vintage Pelikan nib who fits my preferences perfectly. It's a late Pelikan 400 nib. The nib size is EF and it writes on both sides. The nib has the perfect combination of wetness, softness and feedback. I'm in love...
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...a3ea9120_o.jpghttps://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...da3bcabe_o.jpg
The nib is in a shabby Pelikan 400, dull cap, brassing to clip and a scratched barrel. But this is no problem for me. It's always with me these days.

Re: just some pen pics from time to time...
Christof, I am the same way.
The pens that hold my favorite nibs are not pristine nor they are extremely rare or expensive.
This is an old and beat-up Sheaffer Crest that I found at an estate sale, the internal vacuum filler mechanism was corroded beyond repair, so I decided to make it a bulb-filler, which has proven to be more reliable and easier to fill and use.
It has been with me for a few months now to business metings.

Re: just some pen pics from time to time...
Thank you for your contribution and the great picture. These Sheaffer's are pretty cool pens. And I like your note book cover.
...and of course the Olympia!

Psst! Hey penwash! We continue to have similar tastes. I have a Crest in the same color but it doesn't match my Olympia SM4 quite as well as yours, so here's another: a Sheaffer Valiant Vac-Fill.

Re: just some pen pics from time to time...
Here is my Crest Vac-Fill filled with Omas sepia ink, poised to address a letter. I like using vintage postage stamps (still good after all these years), such as the Puerto Rico and Brooklyn commemoratives from 1949 and 1951 and the others that total the current 55˘ domestic rate. (I don't collect stamps; I post them!)

Re: just some pen pics from time to time...
Christof, Fred, I just used the Sheaffer Crest again today at a meeting with a client.
Once again I'm so pleased with the joy of writing with the Triumph nib. It's a nail, but man, it writes so lovely.

I considered an early '50s Hermes Baby, but its size required too much pressure with each keystroke compared to my Olympia, and now that I have this one, I do not intend to start collecting more vintage typewriters! Besides, they won't fit in my pen chest.
-
Re: just some pen pics from time to time...
Here comes a picture of my Hermes Baby with a Parker "51" Flighter.
...but there's a story behind - or even better a Novel with the title "Homo Faber" written by Max Frisch in 1957.
The main character in the book is an engineer called Walter Faber. He believes in technological progress only. Even during an atlantic crossing (with a super constellation) he's using his Hermes Baby (wich was the equal to a Macbook Air at this time).
Max Frisch was using typewriters as well, only typwriters... That's why he equipped his hero with a Hermes Baby.
...but I'am sure, if Walter Faber had a fountain pen (which is not mentioned in the book) it would have been a Parker "51" for sure!

Re: just some pen pics from time to time...
Nice pics. I want to ah too if that's ok? :)
I collected typewriters at one point. All are gone but two, my mom's portable Smith Corona from ca. 1940 and my Royal Quiet Deluxe of similar vintage.

I don't know what fountain pens my mom used but probably more likely a 21—or even third tier pen—than a 51.

How big was your collection, and where/how did you display and store them?
If you ever journey near Lansdale, Pennsylvania USA, Robert DeBarth, a dealer of mechanical and early electric office equipment is still in business after 75 years, and has an inventory of (now vintage) equipment ready to go (plus parts galore), including typewriters. Irascible but worth the effort to make friends.

It was smallish in number, just 7 or 8. Nothing rare or expensive just some standard examples from the 10s - 40s.
Unfortunately, I didn't display most of them, didn't use them often, and storing them in closets was a shame and took up space.
I miss my Underwood No. 5 the most.
I hadn't heard of DeBarth. Good to know.

Re: just some pen pics from time to time...
Absolutely right.
Sometimes, I can see details on the photographs which I hadn‘t noticed before.
That‘s why I am using a strong flashlight.
