    Default Cap question

I recently bought an Esterbrook J, and am trying to become more familiar with it.
Although it has a decent set of threads, the cap only turns 3/4 of a revolution. The cause appears to be a sort of insert inside the cap. Is this typical/normal for this brand?

An Esterbrook J series pen will have an inner cap inside the cap. It is possible that the inner cap is not pushed all the way into the cap and is preventing the cap from threading more before the inner cap hits the section.

You can try to heat the cap and then drive the inner cap into the cap deeper. A pencil should work to do this if you do not have the correct size taper punch. Be careful not to punch through the inner cap by breaking out the bottom. If you have one, it is best to use a tapered punch that matches the profile of the inner cap. Relatively easy to make one from a wooden dowel.
