Platinum model identification?

Hi, does anyone know what Platinum model it is:

transparent version:

I bought one earlier. It seems quite basic:
13-14 g, 133 mm in length with the cap and 121 mm without it
on the nib: M-F, JIS (mark) 15, and number 1289 (does it mean December 1989?)

Hi Karl,
Platinum has made a lot of inexpensive student pens over the years, and they can be difficult to identify. It looks like you've got a model # on the back of the box: B-5. If the seller is not forthcoming with information, you might do well to contact Platinum to ask them for information about your pen. I've had luck in the past contacting Japanese manufacturer's about some history of a given pen. Be sure to give them the model number, and the info you want to know about (like that 1289). http://www.platinum-pen.co.jp/contact_us/econtact.html
The key is to be patient, and once you're sure they've forgotten about you, you may hear something back.
There's also Stan at http://ryojusen-pens.com who might know.

I could make a lot of guesses but they'd only be guesses aka not good information.

Fingers crossed! Be prepared that sometimes these inexpensive Japanese pens are impossible to pin down. I've seen these "skeleton" pens before but never with the gathering on the section like you've found. If you've found a love for Platinum, there's many interesting vintage models. Anyway, this particular pen, PTB-2000D (?), was produced in at least three versions: transparent, red and black. There were also 'soft pens' with transparent caps (?).





I'm pretty sure that the number 1289 on the nib indicates the date of production (December 1989) (http://estilofilos.blogspot.co.uk/20...-platinum.html).

If I learn anything more, I'll leave a note.
