We are bracing for the snow too. Been snowing since this morning, and it's definitely accumulating outside. Work, tomorrow, is already cancelled.
Beware of oblique conclusions.
Tell me about it! It rained so hard this afternoon in San Diego that the entire street and sidewalk were wet!! I swore I almost lost my footing while putting on a light sweater walking out to the car. Dangerous times.

Is this one still open?
Hi Laura & Karen,
Just to report that my sample of Mystery Ink #3 has just arrived here in the UK
I'll start testing this afternoon.
Laura - I hope the bottle of Diamine Mozart we sent you arrives safely. I think all the music set inks are fabulous.

My sample has arrived (the ink that is).
However I have massive computer grief and have had very little sleep. I'll get on to it as soon as I can

Sample arrived this afternoon, will get to it as soon as I can. It's a lovely colour.
We look forward to the time when the power of love will replace the love of power. Then will our world know the blessings of peace.
I am excited already. It seems we're having much better postal luck with MI3. MI2 was cursed.
As you might have guessed, thanks to the brilliant klp, we are now abbreviating the title. It shamelessly steals from a big budget Hollywoood action series. Why? Because Mystery Ink is just that cool. Also, Tom Cruise may just be one of our mystery MI reviewers, hiding behind an FPG nickname. It's a rumor. Only klp and I know for sure.

Better ask Top Pen I say...
Meanwhile, I can reveal that the ink is not green - rather the opposite!

MYSTERY INK #3
Ok, here is a quick-and-dirty, using a format I use in a three-ring binder to catalog inks. Normally, each page would have three inks, but in this case, I test/used the ink on three different papers (noted in the opening line of each). Other details are:
- the left hand side contains a swab, followed by 3 swabs of one, two, and then three passes
- three nibs were used, all Esterbrook in desk (dip) pen holders; these are 1554 (fine), 9668 (med), 9284 (broad)
- there are samples of each nib both in the line tests on the left, and the three double lines of alphanumeric
- the header and example text phrase are done in the broad point.
Thoughts on this ink...
It's in the red spectrum, but it doesn't know what it wants to be when it grows up. It stands in the middle of the road, afraid to be a bold red, ashamed to show itself too pink or purple. On less absorbent papers, it does show a modicum of shading, which might be nice in romantic or gushy situations, certainly not for purposes of gravitas or legal proceedings. I forgot to test how quickly it dries, and I've put away the materials; I can weigh in on this later, or someone else can chime in.
One positive to note is that this ink is what I refer to as "tight": it puts down a very clean line with virtually no feathering, and only moderate bleed-through on the bagasse paper, which is pretty absorbent. To be honest, it is this quality that might cause me to use the ink, but only on a paper like the Tomoe River, where it really stands up a bit for itself. I can't remark too much on the flow, as I was dipping for this, but it doesn't feel like a particularly wet or gushy ink.
I tend to stick with darker, heavier reds. I avoid pink and even light-magenta inks like the plague. The only non-deep-reds I use are Iroshizuku Yama-Budo (if you want to include this in reds) and, for special occasions, some Sheaffer Persian Rose.
Lastly: this ink stains your fingers like a sonofabitch. You have been warned.
Hope this helps. Kinda fun.

OK, I need to get some pics taken, it's looking more pure red to me on my Tomoe river, your sample has a strong pink cast that I'm not seeing. Maybe because we haven't seen the sun in weeks. :P

Current pen rotation: way too many!
It is a beautiful day here in San Diego, sunny and warm, but that's a scan. I have no idea how correct it is, but the screen is pretty close to what I see with my eyeballs.

Jon, thanks for your excellent review! And, I'm happy to see that bagasse was included in your paper line-up, too. Glad that you had some fun with this.
Out of curiosity: When you say that you stick with darker, heavier reds, which reds do you prefer?
