Default Christmas present pen ID- need help

    DSC06148.JPGDSC06140.JPGDSC06138.JPG
I got this pen from my Mom at Christmas. New sac, writes pretty well, surprisingly smooth nib, wet, not too wide a line for a fine nibber like me. There is no marking I can find. It is engraved with a persons name on it, does not bother me. It occasionally burps out a drop or two, has not caused a problem or been irritating yet. Anyone have any idea what kind/brand this is? Just curious, I am sure it is a 2nd or 3rd tier pen. Pictures did not insert quite right.

    Thanks
    Sandy

Looks like a Sheaffer to me. Let's see what the experts respond ;-)

Nope, not a Sheaffer and not a Parker(though it has the Parker 51/41/21 metal cap similarity). My guess is that it's
a lesser-known brand. 2nd or 3rd tier would be correct.

I've seen that metal section band on several of the pieces parts pens of the 40s and 50s, specifically I have an Elgin that uses that construction. I'd say not likely a second tier pen but more likely one of the mail order/box top "value" pens of the period. There were lots of them.

That is definitely one of the "third tier" pens; I have one with some similar parts (the cap and the metal part the cap friction fits to) but a slightly different look to the nib and feed and the "hood" isn't quite the same shape. In 2012 I learned enough to know there were several brand names used for pens made with parts from the same third tier supplier, and many were sold without a brand at all especially for use as engraved gifts or as promotional items (with come company's name or logo on it). I don't remember the brand names anymore and I don't think I have them written down anywhere easy to find.
