    Default Real Life Me: a place to introduce yourself and share your days

    Well, I've seen introductory threads on other forums, and it seemed a good time and place to do that here. Feel free to let us see you and hear about you as a person, with and without your pen fascinations! The only point of this is to have a fuller portrait of all of our friends who gather with a focus, and to see the other aspects of their daily lives and loves. All in good fun, only as you wish, and with a history that will grow unto itself in time.

    So, I'm a known quantity at this point: musician all my life, looking down the short road at winding down some of the professional activities and having a bit more time to pursue other things. Nonetheless, I feel blessed to have had music the largest part of who I am, and happy that I've been able to share it with so many others. I'll leave this now, as a starter, with me in one of my many 'office for today' shots...

    This will shock everyone, but I am a bit of a Visconti FP lover. Just a bit. :-) By day I am a lawyer for NASA at the Kennedy Space Center and that has been almost 23 years now. It funds the pen habits. I am married 12 years to a super guy that is crazy to even tolerate me most days. Florida is where I live, but Oregon is my home. I ride a Honda Shadow Aero 750 (black). I prefer green inks over most other colors, Tomoe River over most other papers, and gold or palladium rather than steel on my nibs. I'm planning to now always be at the DC Pen Show where I have connected with seriously awesome people (Aug will be my third year in a row) and this year I plan to also attend the Dallas Pen Show in September. Maybe next year LA or Philly? I would love to hit them all eventually.

    HI, I do not have a good current picture so I put this in, which I put in previously on another thread. I am 2nd from right, end folks are my middle and youngest sister at a Melissa Etheridge concert.
    I spend my work days, for the last 8 years, in Hutchinson KS as a Continuous Improvment Leader/Lean Six Sigma Black Belt at a Kroger dairy. We process and bottle milk, organic milk, and tea.
    I have a partner of 22 years and 4 dogs.
    I grew up in south-central IN.
    Non-work time besides working on the house & property is fountain pens, watching Nascar sprint cup races, reading, and surfing the web (more reading).

    Well this is me, I'm 43, I spend my days (and most nights) caring for my disabled mum. She took a down turn health wise about 6 years ago so I gave up returning to work as I'd just been made redundant, and moved back home to look after her. I love to cook, enjoy fountain pens obviously, I bake really bad bread and make passable home brew. With not much spare time I don't have many hobbies but I do enjoy tinkering in my man cave when I get the chance. Tracy lee, that's a good looking bike you have there. I used to ride a Yamaha xjr 1300 but when I moved home she just wasn't getting used so she was reluctantly sold. Anyways nice meeting you folks and finally putting a face to some names.

    I'll join in next: 66 years old, married, three grown children, 4 grandchildren. Retiring in June after 35 years as a Rabbi in a Conservative congregation, 26 years here in Philadelphia. Love writing which leads to loving all things pen, ink and paper. Love corresponding and this forum has been a great source of new correspondents and friends. I am an avid cyclist, the Brompton folder being one of my bikes, for getting around the city. (I can't ride right now for medical reasons, but the weather would prohibit it anyway.) That's my Synagogue behind me.

    This is me (without the creepy mask in the avatar), looking particularly unhappy at having to wear my scarf indoors because my office is so cold. I'm 29, live with my boyfriend Chris and Doris the cat. During the day I'm a Personal Assistant, the rest of the time I can be found sewing, doodling, knitting, painting, writing, generally making a mess, or napping. That's when I'm not playing with pens of course! I'm very much of the opinion that work just gets in the way of hobbies and uses up all the best daylight, though I do rather enjoy my job sometimes.

    I don't put my photograph up on the web any more because I'm tired of being pursued by Hollywood.

    What can I tell you about me? I'm from Pennsylvania. I met a wild Highlander online, we got married and I moved to Scotland. I've done a lot of different things in my life to earn a living and nowadays I repair fountain pens to put bread on the table and for fun and enjoyment. My husband shares his wide knowledge of British pens, so between us we get by pretty well on pens from both sides of the Atlantic. Between buying, restoring, photographing, describing and listing pens on my website, I pretty well live and breathe fountain pens these days.



    This is my assistant who doesn't mind sharing her photo online. I thought the point of having an assistant was to get more work done but I'm afraid it doesn't work out that way.

    Apart from pens I'm into motorbikes, cooking and reading everything and anything.

    Here's my tuppenceworth, me in my man cave, sorry study surrounded by my ever expanding collection of books. I also enjoy photographing some of Englands wonderful Medieval and Victorian churches (insomniacs out there can check www.flickr.com/photos/potter for an excellent cure) also writing letters and a daily journal. I'm only just sixty and have recently retired from a life in the rag trade...

    I am a 57 year old teacher of composition and literature courses at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. I am also the Director of the Writing Center. I am not on the tenure track as I do not hold the Ph.D. but the M.F.A. (a terminal degree, though). I am married and have no children. I do have two kittykids, Dustin and Cleo. I am a voracious reader, mostly anything historical, but I like most any good book. I just ventured into online teaching: I teach a course called "Sherlock Holmes, His Predecessors, and His Progeny," which is really a course on the history of the mystery focusing on the consulting detective. But I teach other things, too, as I say. I began an interest in fountain pens about two years ago after stumbling on Azizah's blog, Gourmet Pens. My other avocation is poetry and writing in general. You can find my work online at the Louisiana Poetry Project Web site. You can probably still find my book, The Scholar's Daughter, on Amazon--if not, you can see it on the Web site for Louisiana Literature Press.

    I'm in my late 30s, by vocation an Episcopal priest and aspiring author. I live in the Seattle area with my awesome husband. I've got two awesome step sons (it runs in the family) who are both serving in the military right now. When I'm not playing with fountain pens or working I'm riding my horse (we do dressage, or we try too), yoga (just finished a 30 classes in 30 days challenge), or taking photographs of the beautiful scenery around here.

    (The picture is from a wedding I presided at for friends, in Austin, in August... outside. It was a wee bit warm. I'm not usually on that side of the camera!)

    I'm Emma. Those three photos pretty much sum up my existence. The last one especially, that poster is the result of over 200 hours of independent research on an archaeological site that I presented at a conference in Seattle last month. I'm an anthropology major with an emphasis in archaeology. I work in my school's archaeology lab as well as being a pharmacy technican at Walgreens. I study way too much and enjoy procrastinating on here and Reddit. I have a lipstick obsession that is eclipsed only by my love of coffee. I'm getting ready to take the GRE as I will be applying to grad schools soon. I love fountian pens, but I love the ink even more; the result of being an artist's daughter I guess.

    You are actually not the first to say that when that particular photo is involved. I think it's the angle. And it's just a sticker on a standard moleskin planner!
