I finally broke down and bought a bottle of Kon-peki, and it instantly became my new favorite blue ink color. Now if only it exhibited a little more shading and had better water resistance it would be perfect. I also got a bottle of Ku-jaku to give to a friend (it's one I use a lot), and then Nick at Birmingham Pens threw in a free bottle of Birmingham "Americus's Oyster Bar Salmon Hors D'Oeuvre" ink because he was delayed in sending off a pen order. It's an unusual color, a sort of pale salmon color (orangey pink). It's transparent in the bottle — you can see right through it! I may use it in a drawing, but I can't see myself using it for writing. Too pale on the page, and looks a bit a weird by itself.

The swab does such a good impression of a salmon hors d'oeuvre though.

It's spot on.
BTW, I read an online claim from someone or other that they'd heard that the Birmingham inks were made by De Atramentis (they're all custom made in Germany and bottle in Pittsburgh)), so I asked Nick, and he said that they were made by a number of different German companies. He also said that he has begun formulating his own inks from scratch, and would be rolling them out soon. I'm really looking forward to the announcement.

My most recent ink purchase is Diamine Registrar's blue black. Very nice! I know it's not a new ink though....

I recently came across a gentleman who was selling 3 boxes of unopened Lamy Petrol. I'm keeping one...anyone interested?

My sample of Petrol is almost out. Turns out I rather like that ink... But not enough to pay $45 on ebay for it (!!!!)
And now my daughter has taken a shine to my Petrol Safari and apparently the ink in it. Oh nooo!
Samples of 3 possible alternatives arrived a few days ago: de Atramentis Plum, Diamine Teal, and Noodler's Air Corp Blue-Black. Let the evaluation begin!
Coincidentally, literally minutes ago, I stumbled across my first Safari Petrol that went missing last July. Yay!

Super exciting... Lamy Black!
It worked nicely in my persnickety Montblanc 221 and is semi-water resistant and well behaved, making it the best work ink I've found for that pen after a long quest. I got it on sale from Endless Pens for $12 shipped.
Berlin Notebook Blue No. 1
Monteverde Noir Collection from Vanness.
I've only tried three so far, but I'm happy with the results.
