Great thread to revisit. Too bad the original pics are gone. Still the text help.

I am very sad that the original pictures have gone. That's a real shame. Maybe dneal is still around and will update them one day.
I'm looking at this on the Tapatalk app, and can certainly see some pictures - I didn't see the thread when it was new, so don't know if it's all of them, but it looks like they're all there.
They are no longer here as they were hosted by Photobucket....
Hopefully DNeal will respond and the photos can be resurrected by hosting on another site. I asked his permission at the time and used a plugin to download these pages, which I have on my computer. The drag is that it hard encoded the photos into the html page, so I'm not certain how I could separate them out, but in a pinch, I still have them.

I would love to learn how to grind my own nibs.. that would be fun
When Photobucket dumped 3rd party hosting, I played around with attaching the photos directly via the forum. Problem was that there's a limit to how many pictures can be attached, and my posts exceeded that. Also, it doesn't format correctly.
I will eventually get around to correcting this, for the community; and I just ask your patience until then.
I installed Tapatalk on my iPad, and it does seem to pull down the photos from Photobucket; although there were a few with the "upgrade your account" problem.

FWIW, even before they pulled the "3rd party" stunt I was bothered by the peformance of Photobucket, so I looked around, and have ended up hosting all my pics since then on Imgur. If the main reason for doing so is easy access to your images for online use (like me, as opposed to fancy slideshows, books to be printed, etc) then Imgur will suit your needs and is awfully quick to get used to. One handy feature is choosing among a set of sizes, which is nice to have if you include some unwieldy, large photos.
Good to hear from you. We can wait!

The pictures seem to be back.

Late to this party, and only recently began adjusting nibs and learning to grind to cursive italic and stub. And I have a question:
If the contact patch of the nib to paper is limited to the bottom-to-front edge, and as stated the shape of that determines the width of the cross stroke and sharpness vs stub,
why do we grind down the top of the tipping? For aesthetics? Or is there a functional reason?
Thank you for considering this neophyte question.

Thank you. Very helpful!

Oh no! I just picked up a Dremel and wanted to get started, the pics are very low-res for some reason. Anyone know what's up with PhotoBucket (or have the thread archived somewhere)? Thanks!
Photobucket is now blurring images if the owner isn't paying them for unlimited bandwidth hosting.

I'll pay for a month, if it means we can pull those images. Then someone (like me) should turn this thread into a PDF so that it's not contingent on PB's current hosting plans/whims.
