I had to look Gung Hay Fat Choy up on Bing, now I know what it means, I remember when I used to import clothing from China I always had to allow four weeks down time in deliveries at Chinese New Year as the factories found that staff went back home to the provinces and filtered back slowly, if they came back at all! So Gung Hay Fat Choy to all who celebrate it.

When I lived in China I saw entire cities emptied out for 2 weeks, and everyone went by train, bus and bicycle to their villages to celebrate with their families. in 1996 I was standing on a walkway bridge over a 6 lane wide road down the center of the city and there was only one single solitary lady on a bicycle to be seen on the road. This in a place where normally no matter the time of day, in whichever direction you looked, there were 20,000 people to be seen. I consider myself very lucky that I can celebrate both according to the western calendar and the lunar calendar. There is an interesting blending of culture taking place, such that in parts of Canada they now combine the Scottish Robert Burns night with a Chinese New Year celebration, which they call Gung Haggis Fat Choy.
