Default The pen as a desk ornament

This is a set of crystal glass pens. They are quite heavy, but each one is a smooth easy writer, with a typical modern stiff nib. There is nothing to distinguish the nib feel from any other fine to medium modern nib. These do not have clips, and would be cumbersome in the pocket anyway. The cap screws on. Each pen has a different scene painted on the inside of the glass. They do not post, and even if they did, it would unbalance the pen. Used unposted they have a comfortable, weighty feel in the hand. I think these were probably intended as a desk adornment, rather than a carry around pen. Certainly, other than taking them to "show and tell" at a pen group, these have only ever lived in my office. They are C/C fillers. They are really quite attractive in person. I made the mistake of filling one with Noodlers Bay State Concorde Grape, and a little got on the inside of the cap, and I feel that more than a little rinse is needed to remove the ink mark, but I am not going to try, because I do not want to risk removing the paint. I suggest always using only non-waterproof ink in items like this.

I keep a 149 in a matching stand with a (useless) matching inkwell on my desk. That's my equivalent of a desk ornament.

My Waterman's 14s safety stays in a Maine marble pen holder on my desk, shrouded in silk most of the time. It's funny, as it probably is the most reliable pen in my collection.

I love those glass pens! They are like the snuff bottles that I have seen in museums. Thanks for sharing them.

Yes, just like the inside painted snuff bottles. In fact now that you mention it, I shall keep my eyes open for one to put on the same shelf in my curio cabinet.

I bought these from Tokyo. I have never seen any others over here in North America. Cyber6, next time I know that I am coming to Toronto, I will bring one for you to fondle.

VertOlive and Cyber6, I have heard back from my contact in Tokyo. These pens have not been available now for about 5 years. It would appear that I bought the last complete set. So I have chosen the two I consider the prettiest and will mail one to each of you next week, after I have found suitable packaging for them.
