A possible solution to the spam issue?

I would like to offer a possible solution that could help keep the spam to a minimum and possibly keep it from being a full time job for a Mod.

I belong to another site that also uses VBulletin, has a much higher membership, and the spam is very low to non existent. They use custom programming and other tricks to catch and "roadblock" spam. I talked to the person in charge of that, and he's willing to help, from suggestions to professional management on the back end if necessary.

My involvement would be nothing more than bringing whoever would want to be in charge of it (I'm assuming Eric), and this person together via contact information.

If whoever will be in charge of dealing with spam would like to PM me I can get the ball rolling.

I have no problem if this isn't a direction the site would like to go, just wanted to offer up a potential solution.
