    Red face Hello, fellow FPGeeks!

    Hello everybody!
I'm not quite as sinister as my username might suggest, but I live in the County of Door, where inky shadows lie (to loosely borrow from both Tolkien and SBRE Brown).
Having been raised in the German school system a few decades ago, my fingers were inky from 2nd grade on (we had slates, slate pencils and sponges in 1st grade), and likely will remain so for a while yet...
Thus for me, a fountain pen has always been the 'normal' writing instrument, with the ballpoint being relegated to shopping lists on newsprint notepads. I also grew up in a design-oriented environment strongly leaning towards the utilitarian/minimalist and traditional + Bauhaus spectrum. Interests are any and all sorts of inks (of course) and, well, simple pens that use a nib, such as LAMY CP1's and 2k's, Metros and other things black, minimal and functional, devoid of trim and bling...(though I thoroughly enjoy handling more ornate pens, I just wouldn't buy them).
I am happy to have found this forum as a place to exchange pen-related thoughts and I guess now I'll first try to learn to navigate it (I'm much more handy with a pen and a notebook than with a computer ).
Be well, and thanks to all who make this happen!

welcome welcome. When I lived in Germany I was ever so pleased to discover pens and ink (wish i had bought them while i was there) in the neighbourhood stationery store. It certainly reignited my love for these instruments.

Now that we know your preferences in pen aesthetics, what about ink? Do you have any preference for colour, shading, saturation etc?

    Hello caribbean_skye!
First of all: my daughter, who's an 11-year-old up-and-coming manga artist sure would love your profile pic... Inks: first love are greyish-misty inks like J.Herbin's 'Vert Empire', R&K 'Scabiosa', O.S. 'Blue Merle' and 'Walt Whitman'. But also all things dark and shading... Dia 'Oxblood', J.Herbin 'Lie de The', R&K 'Verdigris' or simply dark-but-not-black, like Noodler's 'Zhivago' and Pilot Iroshizuku 'Yama Guri"... well, perhaps now it looks again more sinister than it really is
Favorite ink to go into all new pens first: a tie between R&K 'Schreibtinte Sepia' and DeA 'Maron'.

    Yes welcome from me.

I am with you on some of your ink choices: Diamine's Oxblood is excellent as is Scabiosa - which I was using only today in a letter.

I am sure you will be happy here.

    All the best,

    Cob

Pretty amazing ink - quite subtle, like a well-made B&W photograph, or a good pencil drawing; and the flow!
