Default Ink Review: Diamine 150th Anniversary Ink: Terracotta

I have decided to review some of my favourite inks. My samples are sent to me by Diamine inks.

This one is from the latest Diamine 150th Anniversary inks Terracotta. It's a typical terracotta shade. Inks that are in this colour range seem to be less lubricated than some other ink colours, but it's still a nice flowing ink, and I like the colour. It reminds me of Diamine Ancient Copper but they aren't quite the same. Ancient Copper is more red and is slightly more saturated than Terracotta.

    • Water test on the review form shows this isn't a waterproof ink.

    • Bearing in mind the paper I use is very smooth, and I used a M nib and a F nib, this ink took 12-14 secs to dry

    • It flows reasonably wet, and although it lubricates the nib OK I have used inks that have had better lubrication than this one, and I prefer inks with slightly more lubrication.

    • It is currently available in 40ml "cake slice" shaped glass bottles.

    • Diamine sell it directly to end-users on their web-site.

Chrissy, nice review on one of my favorite inks. I use an Edison pen with a broad nib and the combo is very smooth on Clairefontaine paper for journaling. For some reason, the ink makes me smile. The color is close to Ancient Copper, but not as brown to my eye. I have sampled both, with each performing well.

You're welcome. I really like Terracotta. Brandy Dazzle shimmer ink is also this type of shade.

Oh thank you for mentioning Brandy Dazzle. It’s one of my favorites of the Diamine shimmer inks thus far (I only have the inks from the first shimmertastic release). MassDrop has an offer on the Diamine 150th anniversary inks that seems a great price for two bottles and free shipping for US customers. I had a sample of Safari, which I liked, and have wanted Terracotta, but haven’t tried it. Taking advantage of the MassDrop offer, I ordered both.

I feel better about ordering Terracotta because of your reference to Brandy Dazzle.

Since I did this review, I ordered a bottle of Terracotta because I liked it so much. I also have Safari. Two really nice inks IMHO.

I’m looking forward to trying Terracotta. The shipping date was listed as late April, so it’s going to be about a month to wait. I have an Acme Studios Fern pattern which should pair well with Safari. I have a bottle of Rohrer and Klingner Alt Goldgrün that seems close to Safari. But I still wanted Safari.

S.B.R.E.Brown is also a similar shade, less red and more yellow, made by Diamine for sale by Akkerman.
