What model is this?

I am very new to the fountain pen hobby. I just made my first post this morning (in the Introduction sub-forum). When I told an old friend of mine that I had started using fountain pens, he mentioned that he hadn't used them in years but had an old Montblanc that he would be glad to give me. He pointed out that it wasn't one of their expensive models, but since my last two pen purchases had been a Preppy and a Jinhao X450, who was I to turn down a Montblanc. It appears to be a cartridge only model. That seems to rule out a Model 620 Montblanc Junior which I learned this morning is a piston filler. I tried for several hours to identify the model and just couldn't figure it out, so I thought I'd post some pics and see if anyone knows just what model I have. I have enjoyed writing with it once I stuck a short international cartridge in it.

I'm very new myself, but in doing a bit of googling, it looks like a Mont Blanc 310. Very similar pictures to a review someone put up on PFN. If I search for the 310 on Google, I get a lot of pictures that look identical to yours. At least to my untrained eye.



I'm sure a more experienced person will be able to validate.

IIRC that one is a Classic. The biggest difference is in the clips with the three digit clips having a sharp crease while the Classic clip was more rounded. But 310 is certainly also possible.

Yes, I also saw images of the 310 that are very close to the pen I have, but I believe the 310 takes either cartridges OR a converter and I don't think my pen will take a converter. I'd like to be wrong about the converter thing because if my won't take one, I won't be easily able to use one of my favorite inks (Asa Blue). Of course, I can use a syringe to put ink into an empty cartridge, but that's a bit more trouble. Thanks for your reply!

Well, I don't think that it IS C/C. Wish it were, but it doesn't seem to have room to take a converter. I might get one of those little Monteverde mini-converters and see if it will work in this pen. Thanks for chiming in.

I found a review of the Classic (http://www.fountainpennetwork.com/fo...blanc-classic/) that suggests it is a C/C pen whereas mine seems to be strictly cartridge.

I't not all that important to me to find out the exact model of my pen. I thought I'd be able to figure it out with a few minutes of Googling, but such has not been the case. Thanks for your help!

Now that I have removed the spare cartridge that was stuck in the body of the pen and realize that it is NOT a cartridge only pen but a C/C pen, I guess a 310 is back in the running as a possibility. Thanks!

Hi Fred, go ahead and make a low-ball offer. Then I can have the enjoyment of turning it down. More seriously, I always consider gift items as having special value. I doubt I'll ever part with the pen.
