    That's what I thought...was still careful not to use too hot water though as whilst the pen may not be worth a huge amount it means an awful lot!

    Although I guess if the water was hot enough it could soften the sealant they use when mounting the nib in the bit you hold (I'm pretty confident this bit has another name)!
    This bit does indeed have another name. It's called the grip. The part from the nib to the screw thread is usually called the section. The last bit is called the barrel.

    Honestly, when I first started using pen forums it seemed like everyone was talking about grips, sections, button fillers, aerometrics and vacumatics. Everything sort of just washed over me in a haze without me actually working out what people were talking about until much later.

    Now you've mentioned those terms that I don't know I will be googling them to learn! Apparently that's what spending the last 3.5 years doing a PhD does to you... I bought a new car and immediately taught myself how dual mass flywheels work!
