Hi, everyone. I've been reading, and occasionally posting, for a while, but here is the official introductory post.
I've been using fountain pens forever, but was only recently infected with the fullblown insanity. The insanity was partly due to a Conklin Herringbone and a pen-delirious friend, a story I'll need to tell sometime as a sort-of-review.
The earliest pen I actually remember was a Parker 75 Ciselé which I borrowed from a potential girlfriend and never returned, but I know there were others before that, I just don't remember what they were. I do remember a Parker 51 that I inherited from my mother or grandmother and filled with red ink to use for grading. It was horribly scratchy, not fun at all. That was all several decades ago and in another country.
I now live in Maine and teach at a small but ambitious liberal arts college, which is where the Conklin adventure happened. I'm interested in books, wine, perfume, and of course fountain pens. I'm particularly fascinated by flexible, calligraphic, and oblique nibs, though my experience of them is very limited. I own an overly excitable dog who has not yet chewed up any pens; she did chew up a bottle of perfume once...
