    Default Hello from California

New to the FPG, been reading for a few months and signed up today!

My mother is a lover of fine writing instruments and she passed this trait on to me. She also was keen to give me access to fine art supplies, including her pens (fountain and rapidograph), from the time I was quite young, maybe 4 years old.

In my day-job life, I work at our family business along with my parents, aunt and uncle, and occasionally my husband where we make electric basses and guitars. We use all manner of archaic writing instruments here, including the humble woodcase pencil. We still do a quite a bit of handwritten correspondence, and I reach for my fountain pens whenever I can.

Currently I'm using a Kaweco Sport in black that I carry in my hip pocket inked with Diamine Majestic Blue. I also have a Stipula Passport that I haven't really bonded with writing wise, but it's so darned cute I can't part with it. I need to work on tuning the nib on that little guy. I have 2 Noodler's Ahab flex nibs that have be hunting for a more flexible and enjoyable flexy, a Pilot Metropolitan on my desk at home, and a couple of vintage pens, including a Montblanc that I bought back in 1987 with my first paycheck.

Looking forward to attending my first pen show in August.

    -Mica

welcome welcome. Do you have a wishlist for your first pen show, things you are curious about seeing?

Love the name, had a co-worker with the name Maike, pronounced the same way.

    Hi Mica

The SF Pen Posse meets in Millbrae. Watch the Clubs section for meeting announcements.

Book on your calendar, SF Pen Show, in Redwood City, Aug 28-30.
And start saving up, it will be like being a kid in a candy store.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I will be at the SF pen show fo' sho' and of course I'm wishing to find a flex nib that is flexier than the Ahab. Will keep my eye on the Millbrae meet-up, that would be fun.

I never heard of the name Maike, caribbean_skye, but I bet your co-worker had to either tolerate a lot of "MY-kee" and other botched pronunciations, or frequently correct. I get more surprised when I talk to someone on the phone, introduce myself, and then when it comes time to end it's "Good-bye, MEE-kuh" Really?

I will have some fresh flex pens from Tom Sawyer if you come to the gathering posted for July 5.
