When visiting the in-laws in Arundel, my wife's father took me to matches close by his home. I tried to find a "rulebook" in bookshops in Chichester, but the best I could find were volumes about memorable matches, sort of like case law reporters. I was expected to glean the rules from those. I finally found a pamphlet outlining the point of the game, but it came nowhere near explaining the why of various calls. I gave up, drank the beer from the adjacent pub and enjoyed the views.

    Now, about M10....

Sometimes when the ball hits the sticks it's bad, and sometimes it's good. But I don't know why.

Are you talking about cricket? Or are you getting all what's-the-meaning-of-life philosophical on us?

Yes, sadly, I was talking about cricket. I missed the philosophical implications of how it might relate to the meaning of life. But that is awesome. I'm drawn to a Zen way of thinking, myself, where the ball hitting the sticks would be neither bad nor good but would just be. And we would appreciate that moment for what it is.

But cricket is a very philosophical game: only the initiates understand it. A little like some philosophical theories, non?

Hello, MI-10ers. Volunteers shall be randomly selected soon. I'm just doing a little behind-the-scenes work to make sure I have the correct number of entries.

I am happy to report that my Mid-Year Resolution is going swimmingly, and I streamed a little of the Ashes this morning. Crazyorange, we're for this guy:

    1. I would, too.

    2. It is, and he is. He was one of the bowlers when I watched. Not that I can evaluate any of the finer points, but he's very graceful in his delivery, and I enjoyed watching him. I'm getting into this. I wish we had it on tv.

I used to like watching cricket. In fact in my OH's younger days when he played, I used to go with him and I was the scorer.

I haven't watched cricket for ages

And wasn't today in Wales? It was beautiful wherever it was.

I may just drop pens and turn to cricket.

Also holds the record highest score for the 10th wicket (with Joe Root) of 198 England v. India in 2014.
