Lightbulb Hi from the Bay Area!

    Hi everyone!

My name is Angelynn. I'm currently a graphic design student in the Bay Area. While I love pens, I'm new to fountain pens. The only fountain pen that I have right now is a Pilot Metropolitan. I haven't used it a whole lot yet, but I love how sleek it is and it writes very well as far as I've used it.

However, I didn't only join this forum to learn about fountain pens, but I also would love to know more about this community you guys have built!

I'm doing a semester long project in my Graphic Design 3 class on a subculture of our choosing. I chose to do this community because it isn't very well known to other people out there. If anyone can give me information or direct me to where I can learn more about the history of this fountain pen community (when did it start, where, who started it, any key figures, etc.), as well as if you guys meet anywhere outside of this forum. Also, if anyone from the Bay Area is willing to have a meetup with me so that I could interview them, then that would be greatly appreciated! Just let me know details and when and where you'd be interested in doing that.

Please let me know if I should post this above part in another area on the forum. I will gladly oblige. I just thought it'd be easier to post it in the introductions so you all know where I'm coming from.

I hope I can hear back from people. Thank you everyone!

In case anyone is also a member of the other fountain pen sites, fountainpencommunity or fountainpennetwork, then yes I did post this same exact post on there, slightly altered here, though. I'm trying to collect as many responses as I can! So far I've had no luck with getting any of my inquiries answered. Any advice how I should get to talking to people on here?

Welcom, good luck on your project. I'm confident that the membership will help you.
Personally, I stumbled onto this site and is my main site because of the members and it feels good like a comfortable pair of shoes?

Welcome home. Pull up a stump and set a spell. There is a very active fountain pen club in the bay area if you mean SF not Chester Peake.

To my knowledge, I've never been subject of a subculture study... this sounds pretty exciting, even though you will quickly find out that many of us here are just plain nuts. At least, I am. Welcome, and don't be afraid to catch the bug - I've been infected for over 40 years and still don't crave a cure!

    Hey Angee...

Good to see you're already hooked up with my peeps in the SF Pen Posse. They are a sub of a subculture. This place is a metaculture, which should work fine, too. My usual greeting:

Welcome to the Fountain Pen Geeks forums! Smaller than the largest pen fora, larger than some, you'll find a comfortable community of pen-centric people here, with a growing body of posts, reviews, and group knowledge. Mostly, you'll find people who are enthusiastic about fountain pens, and fountain pen people.
