Default Checking in from Texas, USA

    Hello all,
I came by to this forum via searching online for information on Pen Shows, and subsequently drooling over the images and narratives from the DC Pen Show. Next, LA Show reportage...

But I'm getting ahead of myself. I'm a total newbie when it comes to fountain pen appreciation, but I follow a recurring theme of appreciation for almost anything antique/junk/vintage/retro. Vintage cameras are my other passion. In fact, I started to notice the beauty of fountain pens in a thread about it on a photography forum that I frequent.

Anyways, at the moment I'm saving my meager budget for the Dallas Pen Show, where I aim to get a fountain pen for my Dad's birthday (as a "Thank You" for letting me use his Hero and Parker when I was little), and one for myself. Currently liking Retro 51 Tornado (you guess it, the vintage-looking brushed-copper one).

That's about it. Feel free to fire-hose me with beginner info like what to expect in a Pen Show, what's a good but obscure beginner pens, etc.

Welcome. I'm sure you will like the show. Personally, pen shows tend to suck considerable money out of my wallet.

    That would be nice.
Maybe you can give me a good intro on how to take care of a fountain pen.

I forgot to mention my name in the intro. Name is Will Gunadi.

Who can I contact for information on meeting times? I live in Louisiana, but it's only three hours or so for me to get to Houston, and so perhaps I can attend a meeting now and then.

I am further away in Australia and dont have the benefit of these pen shows but can still enjoy the great advice and friendship of this forum. Enjoy and post frequently with questions and pen identification questions. There is always someone trolling this site with a wealth of good info which I have experienced to my benefit. BTW I have a family member who is a genetic professor in Texas who lives in San Antonio so I have a connection other than just watching the Beverley Hillbillies when I was a kid.

I grew up in Indonesia, so at one time I was much closer to where you are.
Idiotic youth that I was, I never made the trip to Australia (still kicking myself every time I got reminded of that).

I'd highly suggest reading Richard Binder's 4-part article on your first pen show.

    Reading this right now!
I haven't realized there are so many dedicated blogs and resources online about pens. I have about 10 tabs open on 2 browser for me to hop around when I need to take a break from coding.
