WTB: Montblanc Leonardo da Vinci Red Chalk Ink
Hey there,
I am looking to buy one (or more) bottles of Montblanc Leonardo da Vinci Red Chalk ink.
I'd prefer a full bottle(s) but if you have a partial bottle, that may work too.
If you have this ink ... please get in touch and let me know what you've got. I look
forward to hearing from you.

Re: WTB: Montblanc Leonardo da Vinci Red Chalk Ink
By the way, for any of you "Red Chalk" fans out there: there is a very cool ink that
comes surprisingly close AND that's both "easy to find" and "affordable".
Can you guess which ink I'm thinking of? Bet you can't!
Post your ONE best guess and I'll tell you if you're right.
And if you feel like it, tell me: what's YOUR favorite shading ink?

Re: WTB: Montblanc Leonardo da Vinci Red Chalk Ink
Hmmm, Diamine Terracotta ... No - but great guess! And what a great ink, right? I grew up in Southern California in a home built in the 1920’s and we had a Terra Cotta tile roof. “Terra Cotta” translates to "baked earth” (in Latin), and I can’t help but think of Spanish roof tiles commonly seen in place like Santa Barbara, and really throughout Southern Cal. From what I've read, it's the "iron" in the clay and it's interaction with Oxygen that gives the tiles their orangish red color when they're heated. Of course the word Terracotta also conjures haunting images of the Chinese Clay Warriors & Horses (the Terracotta Army) in Xian, China that were buried with Qin Shi Huang, China’s first emperor. Fascinating story, there.
As for the ink …warm rich tones and nice shading too! A bit more “orange” than Red Chalk I think … but a great ink and a great guess nonetheless.
Who else would like to try?

Re: WTB: Montblanc Leonardo da Vinci Red Chalk Ink
Ahhh, Noodler's Fox Red - sorry, but no, that's not it either. But Fox Red sure is a nice warm red! Doesn't seem to have a lot of shading though, at least not compared to Montblanc Leonardo da Vinci Red Chalk. So that's not it.
Who's next?

Diamine Ancient Copper? Another great guess!! But no, that's not it. However, I must agree with you - that ink does indeed remind me of Montblanc Leonardo da Vinci Red Chalk Ink. It's got GREAT shading, and there's just something magical about it.
Keep those guesses coming.

Diamine Terra Cotta is the right answer, but Herbin makes some that are close as well, like Terre de Feu.

Re: WTB: Montblanc Leonardo da Vinci Red Chalk Ink
Dneal: Sorry but Diamine Terra Cotta is not the correct answer but it is a great ink and a good guess! See my comment #5 (above). It's funny, I was actually sitting here discussing that ink with someone tonight when I saw your answer.
As for Terre de Feu - also a very good guess but nope, that's not it. Some nice shading with Terre de Feu. I hadn't thought of that one actually. Thanks for bringing it up.

Neo: interesting guess! No, that's not it - but what a cool ink. Have you checked out Pelikan Brilliant Brown's shading on Tomoe River paper with a flex nib?
Keep those guesses coming.

Lets try again
De Atramentis Ocher yellow.
Could you clarify the meaning of "easy to find"?
For me that rules out Noodler's.

Re: WTB: Montblanc Leonardo da Vinci Red Chalk Ink
OK, here's what you've all been waiting for ... the big reveal. But first, I want to thank everybody for contributing such thoughtful suggestions and guesses.
I think most of us have at least 1 new ink idea to consider trying (I know I do) and that's pretty cool!
There are some great inks that have been mentioned, and I think some could be considered as being not only in the same "neighborhood", but maybe even on the
same "street" (speaking figuratively of course) as Montblanc Leonardo da Vinnci Red Chalk. A couple that personally jump out for me include Diamine Ancient Copper
and Diamine Terra Cotta. But they are not "the one" I have in mind. Neither is this one, although I thought I'd mention it because most people probably haven't
heard of it (yet) as it's not been released: "SBRE Brown" - I spotted a sample the other day and it I think there's some similarity there - but I don't think it's
available yet, and I believe there's a closer one that that.
So ... what IS the one I have in mind?
******* The answer is: ********
Franklin-Christoph's Terra Firma !!
****************************
Yes "Rafapa", you guessed it (although only supposed to be "1" guess per person,
so I gotta "deduct a point or two" - just kidding).
Now, how close is this ink? Well... I let you be the judge but I spotted an ink swatch on a blog the other day and contacted the owner because I noticed
he also had "Red Chalk" and ask him how the two compared. Well "Michael" was so cool, he quickly did a 1:1 comparison and posted his results and
they're pretty remarkable! If you're interested in checking it out, simply "Google" the following phrase and you can find it pretty easy:
"Franklin-Christoph's Terra Firma vs. Montblanc's Leonardo Red Chalk"
So ... once again, I want to thank everyone for contributing and if anyone has any others in mind - OR - would if you'd like to share your favorite MonteBlanc
Ink, by all means please reply to this post and tell me your favorite!
Oh, and before I forget: I am still looking to buy one (or more) bottles of Montblanc Leonardo da Vinci Red Chalk ink, so if you've got a bottle you may be
willing to part with, please send me a message. I would be most grateful!

And another ink that's in the same neighborhood is: Diamine Burnt Sienna.
