My pen confession is...I have yet to find a pen in the almost $1,000 range that literally sings to me. The most recent Visconti Opera Crystal seems to be calling me. Of course I would have to see it in person first. The most expensive pen that I own is under $300 and its my favorite. The only other pen that I would consider to be my grail pen that meets up to that price point is the ConId. Even then I'm not running out to purchase it.

For whatever reason flexy Pelikans and Pelikans in general call my name. Along with lots of affordable options. I love my workhouse pens the most like my TWSBI.

I guess that could be another confession. I LOVE TWSBI! Everyone I purchased has been great.

And I'm falling out of love with Pelikan Edelstein inks...besides Jade. The newest ones I have seem to be a bit dry. Maybe I'm weird.

Lastly, I don't know if I can get behind a Fine nib. I only have a handful and some I'm not overly excited about them. I'm definitely a M girl.

Oooo...here's another: now and then, I long for the days when all I had were a few cartridge pens and I just snapped in a new cart when the first ran dry and never worried about flushing and watched the ink gradually change color.
My other pen is a Montblanc.

And my other blog is a tumblr!

My fountain pen is my security object that I always carry with me whether I'm going to actually need it or not. Kinda like a lucky charm.
I used to think c/c pens are inferior to piston fillers but in all fairness they're much easier to flush and clean.
I hate the way my noodler Ahab smells and I kinda accidentally on purpose broke it by taking it apart and a tiny piece fell down the drain.

Hi Lady Onogaro. I havent got a Mont Blanc or a Visconti etc so if you have any spares of those I would be grateful to accept them into my modest herd.
    Hi, Laurie,

I have not a single Montblanc. The only Visconti I have is a Rembrandt that my husband bought me. I'm more of a Lamy and Parker 45 type of collector.

Overall, I am a lot more interested in inks and their color variation than pens.

I do not own a black pen.

I secretly long to sell some pens that were gifts but do not want to get caught.

    Mea maxima culpa.

Nearly all my pens are black or silver. Just love a black pen. Maybe just a male thing. Like black suits, black golf shirts, black squid ink rissotto.
The only pens I have that are not black are a red Wahl Eversharp Skyline and a brown crocodile Faber Castell emotion. However i do like some of those blue Parker 51s and those multi coloured pens.

Did you go for it? I don't have any Visconti in my collection, and the Opera Crystal is clearly my favorite one... Cannot understand why some years ago I had it for 350€ and I didn't get it. Huge mistake! Since then I've never seen her in such a good price...

On the other hand I've created a lot of defenses within my head, to avoid going for her at whatever price...but it's not working... ;-)

    Best regards

I can relate to that - - - although I am seriously considering selling an LE Pelikan M800 (Concerto) that was a present quite a few years ago . . . and that I've never used. Perhaps it will soon be a "For Sale" item on this forum.

I've never been able to get past the butt ugly clips on so many Visconti pens.

The Lamy 2000 was utterly boring, but reliable so I gave it to a friend. He sold it about a month later.

Sailor pens do nothing for me. Pilot nibs are often acceptable but never interesting.

I love Visconti pens. Never had a bad one yet. Buttery smooth nibs. However, I do agree with you on the clips. They are not pretty and not really all that functional either. However, you would need to pry my Opera Crystal and my Monaco Princely Wedding LE from my cold dead hands!

    That is interesting.
I have a Parker 45 and I do like the ability to take apart the nib easily and clean up the pen.
I almost flushed that tiny nib down the drain

What makes it an exception for you among other hooded nib pens?

I have wondered why I find it acceptable on the Parker 45, too. I think it is because of the way you can take it apart. I have picked up quite a few of them that people said were "not working," only to discover they just needed to be cleaned. Some had 14K nibs. The grey Parker 45 with a B nib that I just bought last week for $13.33 (including shipping) is a good example. It was so inexpensive, and the nib was a 14K nib. Anyway, I have just grown to love them. I also like all the colors and varieties, from the steel flighter to the all-plastic barrels. I would love to get a Harlequin or patterned one, but I am not going to spend the money they ask for those.

I try to get them for under $20.00 when I can. It's kind of a game for me. But I do, seriously, like the pen. It was one of the first vintage pens recommended to me.

I've used fountain pens since I was in High School (No I'm not just old). The Lamy2000 was the object of my lust since I was a teenager. I finally got one for myself for my 40th birthday last year.

A Franklin-Christoph Model 20, with a 50's Pelikan style semi-flex gold nib, would be my dream set up. Either that or a Pelikan 400 with a bit more girth...:O).
