That second one is gorgeous! Is it wood?
So damn pretty. I think I may have to send you a Pelikan...

Just curious. The original binde is glued to the barrel or is friction fitted? What's the difference between a captive converter and the method used by Pelikan?
Thanks in advance,
Rafael
There is a little bit of glue, or maybe it's solvent welded onto the barrel. Not real sure.
A captive converter is exactly as it sounds, a converter that is made into the pen and cannot be removed. A piston is bigger, and as if the whole barrel is a converter. Sort of.
There's plenty of info online for you to look up. Fun reading.
Shawn what pens can you do this with? All of the M400/400 line?

Now that I am comfortable with the modern press fit piston models, I'll do this with all of them.
I won't however, work with the old 100 models. Not worth the stress.
Shawn, can you do this to an all black Pelikan?
In other words, is there even a binde on an all black Pelikan to replace?
People say the Sailor Realo is not a true piston filler because there is a barrel inside the outer part. I see no difference with the Pelikans. Only the size. That's why I asked. I thougth until I saw your work than the binde was the barrel.
Awesome work by the way.
Yes there is still a black acrylic sleeve over the clear or dark green barrel tube. I've done this to an all black one before.
The Realo doesn't strike me as a captured converter type though.

Here are examples of that style. Literally, just a converter with a fancy knob glued or otherwise fixed into the barrel so it can't be removed and replaced or cleaned.

Thanks for showing us your mastery on the lathe in pictures.
I was wondering where you obtain these nice acrylic rod stocks from, are these commercially available or is that also home-made?
Sorry to ask but what kind of cost is there?
Nice work! They all look so good.
WOW! The Wood model looks great!
