Thumbs up P.W. Akkerman Inks Arrived ~ Direct

So I ordered some P.W. Akkerman ink because I just could not stand to see anymore videos or pics with those dang bottles and not have them. Now I do have samples of them I got from amberleadavis a while back so I do actually like the inks and how they write lol.

Ok so here is the run down. Shipping starts at € 20,00 and you can order up to 3 bottles before it jumps to € 30,00 for shipping. So i went for 3 bottles at € 13,64 each and my total with shipping was € 60,92 or $79.51 USD.
I ordered on Nov. 12th & it arrived today Nov. 23rd. Netherlands to New York in 11 days !!!
I paid by paypal and got a confirmation right away which is good so I could check that my address was 100%. It did not show my state for some reason. I emailed Akkerman my full address who in turn emailed me right back saying they got the order and the correct shipping address and would be shipping it out that day. Paul Rutte is the one who emailed me about my order and gave me what they call the "barcode" to track it. I used that # on the www.usps.com website and was able to track it once it hit the US. Great to know when it is going to arrive as you do have to sign for it.
Packed really well to and arrived in 100% condition. REMEMBER these are 150ml bottles. Thats a lot of ink & works out to less then .18 cents a ml. or $26.66 usd per 150ml bottle shipped!

    I got colors #10, #13 & #23

Here is a quick unboxing video so you can see how it arrived and how it was packed... and just some extra eye candy.

Very nice! I've got another three bottles in the mail at the moment which will bring my total up to 10 bottles. I can make a pyramid! :-) The inks themselves are really great. 10 is iron gall so I'd avoid it in steel nibbed pens. Enjoy!

That's actually pretty good pricing, especially when compared to Iroshizuku ($28 for 50mL).

    Congratulations!
These are very good inks indeed and the bottle is just the icing on the cake. #23 Bekakt Haags and the #13 Simplisties Violet are also among my favourites.

I know nothing about iron gall ink. Care to explain? What does it do to steel nibs?

steel nibs are more prone to rust thus braking the nib itself; and iron gall ink is inherently acidic hence catalyzing the rusting process

Have you ever actually had any steel nibs rust? Fountain pen nibs, that is. I have soaked my nibs in water and left them to air dry many times before and have never experienced any rust at all. Actually, now that I think of it, I only have one solid gold nib: my Pilot Custom Heritage 912 with a PO nib. So because of the acidic properties of iron gall inks, is it best to just keep it away from steel nibs or is there a way to use them without damaging my nibs? Also, what about the effects of iron gall ink on demonstrators? Will they damage or stain a clear demonstrator?
    -Best Wishes, K

good questions!!! alright so have i experienced rusting? YES! (to different degrees tho...) when i use my dipping-calligraphy pens (if i fail to properly clean and/or dry the nibs) it take only a day for them to get orange spot that lead to nibs breaking as for steel nibs in a fountain pen (say like a Pilot prera) they tend to accumulate a black gunky stuff under the nib which if left unclean will eventually lead to messing up your nib anyway. i havent got the rust spots on steel nibs just yet cuz i do clean them quite often (id rather not find out lol). Gold nibs are not as prone to rusting as steel nibs tho they also accumulate gunk -- it is what it is... SOOOO is it "best" to keep away from steel nibs?! not necessarily; with proper care i think you can avoid all that jazz (what i do is i make sure everything is properly dry before storing and just for good measure i store my fountain pens and nibs with a couple desiccants. And last but not least demonstrators... i haven't seen any staining on my pens and i have a few (Pilot Custom heritage 92, kawecos, twsbi etc) and it comes down to what ink you use rather than the material of the pen. ive seen Noodlers bay state line stain more than anything out there (but everyone knows that) again if you clean them properly after each use you should be golden! <--- see what i did there!? lol Good luck tho, my best advice tho always use common sense why miss out on all the inky goodness out there?!

AND... you guys & girls are AWESOME !!!

FYI they are the only ones who have them for retail in the USA. You can get them really really fast from Vanness & you can order just 1 or 2 at a time within reason.
