Default Which is the best Sheaffer re-issue ?

There have been many Sheaffer re-issues all the way from PFMs to Balances. Which is the best and why ?

The legacy is sort of a RI of the PFM. There were the Balance RI and Crest RI as well. Those are the only that I think of. My personal vote goes to the Legacy I with the hybrid TD system. I didn't care for the Legacy Heritage or the II as much and as lovely as the Balance II are, there are cracking issues and I have not tried the Modern Crest pens.

Anyone know the difference between the vintage Crest and Modern ones ?

There were many vintage Crest models, so that question really has a host of answers. The first "Crest" model was very pointed and had the cap threads at the nib end of the section. But Sheaffer used the model name "Crest" for several gold capped models. The pointy black lever fill pen and it's pencil (top of pencil dented) are early Sheaffer Crests.

I have a Crest reissue -- I love the way it looks (Opalite or something green) and it's the smoothest pen I own. I haven't used any of the original Crests though, so I can't compare.
Pens and Perspective for all hands, great and small (including pen reviews by the small handed!)

The fourth from the left in this picture is the Balance 2 while the fourth from the right is the Crest reissue.

In this picture the two transparent pens are Sheaffer NoNonsense while the jade green beside them is a Sheaffer flat top.

I for one am not too impressed with the new Sheaffer NNs. The ink in them tend to dry out very fast. Are the old ones better ?
