    Default Famous Correspondences

I saw this in this morning's NY Times and thought it might be of some interest, especially to those of us committed to Incowrimo and to pen paling throughout the year. Then I thought, "why not start a more general thread for people who want to talk about famous correspondences they are reading or have read." Have at it!

So do I... but the author writes under a pen-name!

After buying some pen and ink at the bookstore, I found on the bargain table a book collection of Groucho Marx's letters and opened it to a page where he's being clever and amusing to an eleven-year-old fan. I love that famous people like Groucho Marx responded to letters, and he didn't stint on or dumb-down his style or humour when someone 1/6 his age wrote to him. He wasn't snobbish and didn't relegate subteen fan letters to his secretary for responding while he had penpal correspondences with S.J. Perelman and T.S. Eliot.
