Who should I write to?

I know that February is almost over, but I'm so taken with the idea behind it that I would like to do it through March...for a couple of reasons. The biggest is that I will need something to give me purpose while I'm recovering from surgery that I'm having on the 25th...but I'd also like to improve my handwriting, explore more different inks and pens, and bring a little joy to someone else's day.

The only trouble is, I am having trouble coming up with people to write to. I'm not close with my family, and my fiancé's family will not understand it if I do them.

Then I thought I could write to people behind bars, encouraging them as they pay for their crimes and get a fresh start (let's face it, if anyone needs a bit of joy it's someone in prison) but I recently learned that you can't send mail into prisons without a return address, which seems unsafe to me.

I also thought of soldiers, but I really want to write to people that no one thinks of, and I have several relatives doing adopt-a-soldier programs. I want to write to people who are forgotten, that really, really need a kind word.

I would also like to find a way of doing this anonymously, if possible...I don't feel comfortable giving my address to a ton of strangers.

Any thoughts?

I'll make that a 4th 😀 No worries about the calligraphy/handwriting. Mine is quite illegible I'm sure, especially since I tend to write in the wee hours of the morning!
