    Default lamy 1.1 mm nib

I was thinking about getting one of these and wondered If anyone could provide a writing sample i was concerned about wether or not they run dry, if they are smooth enough, good line variation etc.
    much, much appreciated, Luke!

Here you go. I left the scan full size so you can see the line variation in detail. I think the program automatically reduces the size, but on some sites it will enlarge if you click on it. Not sure about FP Geeks.

The Lamy 1.1 is not the smoothest nib I have ever used, but at its price I find it quite acceptable and fun to write with.

I have a few Lamy 1.1 nibs and I would say they are all quite smooth bearing in mind they have no tipping at all. They aren't scratchy. I regularly use them when I'm doing ink reviews.

Is that 5mm dot-grid spacing in the sample pic?

Some may run dry, so you need to be able to adjust the nib for better ink flow.
This is done by CAREFULLY lifting the front of the nib, to increase the space between the nib and the feed.
You only need to lift is a "TINY" amount, so slow and careful, a little at a time.
Because the Lamy nib is FLAT, the usual method of expanding the nib slit does not work, you can't expand the slit.

I'm quite fond of the Lamy 1.1 nib. Great line variation but still smooth enough to use for fast note-taking. After my Pilot Vanishing Point, it's the pen I use most for college.

Here's a writing sample with three different nibs, a Lamy 1.1 with BB Piano Mahogany, a Platinum 3776 broad nib with Sailor Miruai and a 18k JoWo fine nib with Sailor Doyou Brown. The 3776 nib is like a European medium nib.

    I hope that's helpful.

And huge shout out to bluesea for the Piano Mahogany sample! I love, love, love that ink.
