    Default Scriptorium Master Scrivener

    My Scriptorium is finally here!

I got a small Master Scrivener in Lava Lamp #106 Bronze Chocolate (a type of alumilite finish from MuttBlanks.com) and copper trim, with a two-tone #6 18K Jowo fine nib. My pictures are decidedly amateurish, but Renee took professional grade photos, which can be found here, here, here, here, and here.

And now some of my own photos! First, my Master Scrivener alone:

I also took pictures with some other pens, to show relative size. In the following two photos, I have (left to right): Pelikan M200, Lamy 2000, Master Scrivener (small), and Edison Herald.

And here's the Scriptorium with three of my Nakayas. Left to right: Piccolo, Naka-ai, Master Scrivener (small), and NeoStandard.

As you can see, even though this is Renee's "small" model, the pen is actually relatively large (most of my pens are on the small-ish side, so this is actually one of the largest pens that I own). The material, however, is very light.

And the nib? Well, my first impression was not so great: I inked up the pen, and it wouldn't write. At all. So I flushed it and inspected the nib. I noticed that the feed was a little bit off center, and so I gently centralized it. I inked the pen up again, and now it writes beautifully. Smooth and wet.

The pen comes in a plastic tube and a velvet(?) pouch (no gift box). Renee also includes a polishing cloth. There is no real gift box, which is just fine with me, as I throw away most of my pen boxes.

As for the packaging, umm, I guess you could say it's secure. It did take me a while to get to the pen...

Congrats! I love the copper trim with the material! I hope it brings you many years of joy =]

From what I understand, Renee tunes each nib when she sends them out and in my experience, she's a fantastic nib tuner. What did you ink it up with?

Yeah, I believe she does tune them, but it may be that she only dips the nib to test it, and if so, it's easy to miss problems with the feed. It was a quick and easy fix though (I just centralized the feed; took me about five seconds), and now there is no problem. I filled the pen with Iroshizuku Tsukushi.

    Congratulations.

That looks to be a great pen. Could you show how it writes, please, Miss Fountain Pen?

    Here you go.

I know the picture quality is not the greatest (which is why I didn't post it yesterday...), but this is the best that I have been able to do.

Just a small remark: the pen doesn't post. This is fine with me (I only post the smallest and lightest of my pens, and this one is plenty big for me unposted), but it occurred to me that some of you might wonder. So, I tried posting, and nope, it won't post.

One seriously lovely pen. It checks so many of the things that I like in a pen.

Thank you for posting these pics, and especially the comparisons! I've thought about getting a Master Scrivener since the model was released, but could never get a handle on the size. This helps a lot.

You're very welcome. Also, it seems that if you go for a larger size, you mostly gain in girth; length increases only slightly. According to Renee's size chart for Scrivener and Master Scrivener, as you go from small to medium, you gain .2mm in length and .1mm in girth, and it's the same if you go from medium to large. Proportionally, a .2mm increase in length is far smaller (and less noticeable) than a .1mm increase in girth.
