    Dear SIR,

    I'm not sure how much of this I'd do (beyond my occasional adding of a couple drops of something dark to give something light a bit of gravitas), but I wanted to thank you for sharing this. Well thought out, very well documented, and with clear caveats in place. A very nice contribution!

    Cheers,
    Jon

    Those are just the main successful examples I have made so far since starting about six months ago, so plenty more to come I'm sure.

    Looking forward to that; so far, despite my pretentious screen name, I have only blended inks that were designed to mix with each other, such as R&K, Platinum mix-free, DeAtramentis Doc ink etc. Your work is very encouraging and I shall get messy with my inks very soon!

    Like that purple and the grey green. I have considered getting into mixing inks and thought I would start by staying within a single brand. The idea being that it 'might' produce a more stable mix for a noob, like me. Are there other brands of ink that might lend itself to mixing more than others in addition to those listed above?

    I have found most modern inks lend themselves well to blending; however, one manufacturer's inks I haven't tried, and am reluctant to, are Noodler's.
    Using very small amounts of ink and a little patience makes the process a relatively low risk adventure.

    Someone had given me a recipe for Leonardo's: 50 / 50 Diamine Ochre, and Burnt Sienna. Not Leonardo, at all. But very close to the old Pelikan 4001 Brown.

    I will probably try to add some Platinum Igment Rose Red, and see the result.
    I saw a comparison (http://www.fp-ink.info/en/details/376.ink?) of Sheaffer Skrip brown with MB's Leonardo and decided to buy a bottle; it's a nice colour in itself and would probably make another very close replica MB Leonardo with the addition of some Platinum Rose Pigment.
    Diamine's Ancient Copper is also reputed to be a close match for MB Leonardo.

    Thanks. Yes, though I am a big fan of Noodler's inks myself, I realize that they are each a unique blend of properties. So, they may not lend themselves to mixing quite as well as say a pure 'dye' based ink. That said, General of the Armies, might be fun to play around with in a mix because of the color change it does.

    Currently working on developing a robins egg blue like Bianchi use on their bicycles; I'm thinking Pelikan's new Edelstein Aquamarine combined with a turquoise with maybe a touch of jade would be a good start.

    Love that color. The original vintage color is referred to as Celeste, which has quite a bit of green in it.

    The color the're using now is closer to Robin's Egg, with less green than the vintage shade and darker.

    Thank you, SIR.

    The dip pen sample makes this colour look very close to Diamine's Eau du Nil

    Eau du Nil looks very nice, I had not noticed it before; I think it is more on the blue side of the spectrum compared to my new blend which is greener.

    Cool new recipe

    Monroe's Kiss

    This recipe is based on a basic two parts magenta to one part yellow.

    One equal part of each of the following;
    Platinum Pigment Rose Red
    Monteverde Pink
    Private Reserve Dakota Red
    Diamine Hope Pink

    To two parts of Diamine Shimmertastic Golden Sands

    This recipe contains highly saturated, pigmented, and shimmer inks; more frequent and careful cleaning of pen parts is advised, use at own risk.

    Seal.jpg

    The shimmer is very subtle but together with the pigment adds texture and body.

    Cool New Recipe!!

    Easy recipe with 'ordinary' inks;

    Blueberry

    Two equal parts of KWZ Grey Plum and Diamine/Cult Pens Deep Dark Blue
    To one part Sailor Nioi-Sumire (four seasons sweet violet)

    Ink appears stable and should be safe for use in fountain pens, however, do exercise proper ink hygiene when mixing and give your own samples time to show any adverse reactions before use.

    Bonus
    Using just one part Grey Plum to one part Deep Dark Blue without the addition of Nioi-Sumire makes Blue-Black Berry!!
