Default Pens to mark an event or reward yourself

In the two years since I got into fountain pens, up until recently, most of my purchases have been because I just longed for a particular pen. I'm graduating with my undergraduate degree in May and my mom let me commission a pen to reward myself. I chose a green celluloid Hakase. I've spent most of the year stressed out about grad school and in the last couple weeks got accepted to one that I was eyeing the most. To celebrate and reward myself, I decided to order a new pen. I wasn't interested in bling or desk jewelry -- I wanted a user pen, a great writer, something that would be comfortable in the hand. I decided on a Romillo Narcea #9, with roll-stop and cabochon. After inquiring with Romillo about whether there were any new materials in the pipeline, I was told that there wasn't any new materials coming to the regular line but that they'd do a one-off for me. I was sent a picture of a gorgeous rod of green and black mottled ebonite he had in the shop.

The Narcea #9 is, I believe, the smallest Romillo pen. From the measurements listed, it seems to be around the size of a Nakaya Piccolo. So now, I await two green pens. One marking the end of undergrad; the other marking the start of grad school =]

Have any of you decided to mark a new job, accomplishment, or some other event with a new pen? What did you end up picking?

Congrats! Both on the custom pen and graduation. Such an awesome thing to look forward to for such a cool reason.

I have, twice. Both were gifts, but I was able to choose one of them. The first was when I finished my PhD: my parents got me a Cartier Diabolo fountain pen (and matching ballpoint pen, because they got a good deal). The second was for my 10th work anniversary: after asking me what I wanted, my wife got me a Pilot Justus 95.

Most of my pens were to mark an occasion, however, I've forgotten which one is for what. :P

    Congrats on your new pens!!!!!

Thank you! I'm very excited for the pens and finishing my degree. Not least because between the two programs I'm looking at for grad school, I'll for sure be moving to a city near a pen show! For anyone curious, USC in Los Angeles and NYU in New York City are the two schools I'm deciding between.

Oh, sweet! Both of those are worthy occasions to honor. How do you like the Cartier Diablo? What are the nibs like? I think I read once that the nibs are made by Montblanc. There's a really interesting Cartier on Mottishaw's site in the used pens section that has leather, or what appears to be leather, covering the barrel and cap.

I think I got me a Parker 75 or 180 when I went into grad school.
I don't remember which pen it was, as I have both pens, so don't remember the tying event.
But other than that, nothing that I bought myself.

About to reorder a Diplomat C in black as a reward for finishing my design project. When the design is what makes this pen it feel appropriate.

Don't no what I will get when I graduate, it probably will be German though.

Every house I've bought has been signed ( or tried to be signed) for with a new pen. And then there is the solid silver Waterman Gentleman that was my first wedding anniversary gift.

Very cool! What did you end up studying, if you don't my asking?

Sweet! I've never used a Diplomat but the C does look very interesting. I just saw the last Pen Habit review of a Diplomat Aero and Matt gushed about the quality of the nib, so my curiosity about Diplomat is piqued.

Awesome! New homes and a wedding anniversary are great occasions to celebrate. The Waterman Gentleman is gorgeous.
