In the two years since I got into fountain pens, up until recently, most of my purchases have been because I just longed for a particular pen. I'm graduating with my undergraduate degree in May and my mom let me commission a pen to reward myself. I chose a green celluloid Hakase. I've spent most of the year stressed out about grad school and in the last couple weeks got accepted to one that I was eyeing the most. To celebrate and reward myself, I decided to order a new pen. I wasn't interested in bling or desk jewelry -- I wanted a user pen, a great writer, something that would be comfortable in the hand. I decided on a Romillo Narcea #9, with roll-stop and cabochon. After inquiring with Romillo about whether there were any new materials in the pipeline, I was told that there wasn't any new materials coming to the regular line but that they'd do a one-off for me. I was sent a picture of a gorgeous rod of green and black mottled ebonite he had in the shop.
The Narcea #9 is, I believe, the smallest Romillo pen. From the measurements listed, it seems to be around the size of a Nakaya Piccolo. So now, I await two green pens. One marking the end of undergrad; the other marking the start of grad school =]
Have any of you decided to mark a new job, accomplishment, or some other event with a new pen? What did you end up picking?
