Landscapes would be good, I have always liked landscapes.

Maybe flowers, or a puppy, trees - great, trees are nice.

    Anything really.

    Hi Fermata,
you sound like my wife, she also always want me to draw landscapes and that stuff.
Unfortunately I consider drawing landscapes, flowers, still lifes ..... mostly boring so I draw them seldomly.
But lets see what I can do (maybe tomorrow).

Not really a puppy but a cat for today.
Does this also count for now?

Different contributors here have different specialties. Haven't seen migo for a while. He did nice landscapes. Presumably still does.

I don't post here too much (or don't think I do), but I like doing faces. Really ought to challenge myself more to do other things, whether they're good enough to show here or not.

But we all do what appeals to us. What would be great would be if we got more people to post their drawings here.

Thank you for that, yes a change would be as good as a rest, I thought you might have been a teenager from your posts so mention of a wife is a surprise.

Your post is IMO quite provocative.
Not sure which posts you don’t like.

Should I answer it in the same way?

So hypothetical I could answer like this:

Are you too old for nude art?
I’m almost 50, and for sure not too old for artistic nude, cartoons, manga, tribals, abstract art,......
My father died a few years ago at the age of 80 and he was also not too old for this stuff.
So how old could you be? 90 plus?

Congrats that you managed to use a computer in your age.

    Or maybe just too prude?

..... but I will not answer that way..... remember, the above was only a hypothetical answer.

    I’m with Kaputnik.
You are welcome to join us and post your artworks here as well,
Landscapes, trees, flowers, puppy’s, still life’s,.... whatever you like is welcome. 👍

But the final solution would be, don’t look at it if you don’t like it. 😎

I for myself have only 1 limit for my art.
I only draw things that I also can show my son, and he is 11 right now.
Nude humans are nothing to hide.

I tell you what, tomorrow I will post a landscape especially for you

Well, anyway, I have no interest in arguing with anyone, but my chutzpah has been reawakened enough to put something up here, a couple of recent efforts in ink, Copic Multiliners.

Still learning. When you start to draw seriously in your 60s, you shouldn't expect too much. But the challenge for me with ink is in knowing that I can't really correct my mistakes. Sometimes I can draw over them, but that seldom works. But it makes me more careful, and forces me to think ahead.

    Well done Kaputnik!
I already see progress in your new portrait.
    Keep them coming.

And today as promised as special request for Fermata a landscape.

For me, the mention of a wife is a surprise after posting 'sexy' drawings of looney tunes characters.

    Optimistic.

There's a kind of a sliding scale to it, Ptero. If someone would rather you post a few more landscapes rather than your fetishes, cartoon or otherwise, that doesn't necessarily make them 'too prude'.

But the final solution would be, don’t look at it if you don’t like it. 😎
It's not the content of your art that makes me post here (I can wince and scroll on) but this attitude. For all your recent railing about how FPN is full of little snowflakes too quick to take offence, you sure do have a skin as thin as parchment yourself. Fermata posts with "er, um, landscapes?" and you respond with this whole aggrieved, insult-laden rant. Hence my surprise at your age. I thought you'd have a bit more socialisation by now.

'Don't like, don't look' is a stupidly lazy statement and solution, and can backfire on the shortsighted. Other participants in this topic are few and far between, but are you going to deny anyone a look at their work - or yours - because they have to dodge your minefield, and if they 'don't like it', they just 'don't look' at the thread? Or what if the solution is to put you on ignore? All your posts, anywhere on the forum.

I for myself have only 1 limit for my art.
    As many as one?

Nude humans are nothing to hide.
But perhaps nothing to shove in people's faces, either.

I quite like some of your art. I was particularly impressed by that water mocassin a while back. I was getting by, lurking in this topic, chalking up the inclusion of your more... 'artistic' pieces to some kind of tone-deafness, deserving of a bit of sympathy. After that statement at the end of a long post of sulking and shin-kicking, it feels more like adolescent rebelliousness, long past it's sell-by date.

I´m tired commenting such posts as above.
I appreciate when people like my pieces and every constructive input and feedback is welcome, everything else will be ignored from now (at least from me).

Sometimes even I think a mod would be a nice thing to have.
At least a function for the thread creator to remove unwanted posts would be nice, kind of distributed moderation.

Let´s focus on our art, the active contributors here and the people who like (at least some) of our pieces.

Everybody is welcome to participate and show his work, please stay on the topic, personal dislikes are not the topic here.

This time an illustration with fountain pen with black ink and without a wash, just pain tradtitional hatching.

I try to keep my posts to this thread to a minimum, but I'm going to indulge myself with one more this year. If I accidentally produce a masterpiece before January 1st, I'll post it here in 2021.

John James Audubon I'm not, but as a break from all those human faces, I decided to have a try at some birds. Here are two attempts at drawing the same bird, the top one in ink, the bottom one in pencil. A drawing is at least partially a failure if you have to explain what any part of it is meant to depict (at least in my opinion). But looking at the ink drawing, it occurred to me that the black object above the birds back looks as if it had one wing extended on the other side, and I had drawn it very badly. In fact, in the photo I was working from, only the bird and the twig it is perched on are in sharp focus. Everything in the background is blurred, and I have no idea what the black object is. It's rather overstated in the ink drawing, understated in the pencil one.

It occurred to me that perhaps a wash might be a way of creating a blurred effect in ink, but although I do have some black watercolor around, I don't want to experiment with it just at present.

Anyway, it was fun trying something else.

You could perhaps consider some editing software that could quite easily be used to edit out the black object or even blur the background for when you post your images online.
Otherwise the bird is very nicely drawn.
I always used editing software to add white catchlights to eyes before I bought my Rotring Isograph pen and white ink. It is usually too difficult to leave blank white paper catchlights when painting black pupils if the image and page is small.

Well done Kaputnik, I really like both versions.

I would not alter a traditional drawing digitally as Chrissy suggested.
A traditional piece is a traditional piece in my eyes and should not be "pimped" content wise with software.

As artist you have all freedom to change your motive, if the black object does not make sense or if you do not like it, change it or leave it out.
You have god like abilities regarding the content of your drawing, use them wherever you like to improve the picture.

A wash is for sure an option and would be the easiest way for a Bokeh effect.
To draw it with very discreet loose variating lines is also an option but much more difficult (imho).

    Do you use waterproof ink?
Even wth waterproof ink you can apply a wash, just prepare the color tones you want to use on a separate palette (I use a rectangular Sushi plate for it) and apply it with a brush.
Fade it out with plain water on your brush as long as it is still wet.

    I like both versions.
IMHO you should focusing more on light and shadow and make it clear for the viewer where the light is coming.
This would make it more 3 dimensional.
You could also use a wash to emphasize the shadows (as an option to hatch them)

Keep your pieces coming, I appreciate your active participation a lot.

After Inktober I started (inspired by a colleague in the office) a kind of sketch advent calendar. The goal is to make a sketch every day. I sketch simple items from our household. And my goal is to take no more than 5-10 minutes per sketch. I have found that it works best if I work on 4 sketches at a time. This allows the ink to dry before I apply another layer. I am working with the following pens:

    - Indigraph with indian ink
    - Platinum brush pen with black Platinum ink
    - brush and ink (Pelikan Fount India)

Unfortunately, I only now remembered to post the drawings here. Thus I catch up the 1st December to the 24th in one fell swoop- Let's go:
