@Ptero I love the simple elegance of your figure.... it's like a whisper....
Can you tell me more about Faber Castell Polychromos White? Did you draw on a black cardboard?

I love also the whimsicalness of the blue camel
What ink did you use? I need to guess on another thread

    Thanks Yazeh. 🙏
To be honest I also like how it turned out, actually it was a quite fast one.

And it was you who gave me the trigger, I read your guess in the other thread, “J. Herbin Nude” and I was already quite sure that George made it again with the Aphrodite guess.
So I was sitting on the couch knew that I lost the round against George, read your guess, googled the ink and thought, hey damn, lost the game but I didn’t drew a nude since a while, why not, I like drawing nude females, my son played surprisingly with himself, my wife worked something, let’s draw a nude and rile some prude guys on geeks by posting it.

I used only a white colored pencil on a Winsor & Newton black A5 180g/qm sketchbook.
I really like white on black drawings because of their simplicity and elegance (if you get it somehow right).

When it comes to high quality colored pencils (artist grade… so quite soft and high pigmented) you have basically 2 main choices (there are other good ones but these are the famous ones)

There are Faber Castell Polychromos pencils which are oil based and Prismacolor Premier which are wax based.

Both are top notch and it’s basically a matter of personal preferences which you prefer (kind of Montblanc vs Pelikan in the colored pencil world).

On this kind of drawings you additionally could use white chalk, which can give you even brighter white lines, and which is softer and easier to blend.
But it is afterwards also prone to smudge and might have to be fixated.
I didn’t used chalk in this drawing.

    Thanks for asking.
The ink I used for the camel is …………

    Nice try. 🤪

@Ptero I'd only be offended by the nude if it were riding a pink unicorn with a rainbow in the background.

(I hope this isn't seen as inspiration for your next drawing...)

A drawing from late last year.

And another from early this year. I'd tried the same drawing on January 1st, but was very unhappy with the result. Liked this a bit better.

"Resolutions" are a popular idea for this time of year. I have none. I do, however, have plans and intentions. As they relate to art, I want to try watercolors, and have ordered some supplies. There are many things that I need to work on with my pencil and ink drawings, more than I need to go into right now, but it comes down to trying out different things, and different subject matter. As well as trying to improve the actual drawing, or course.

    Happy New Year, everyone.

Hey Lloyd, you make me think of things....... a nude riding on a unicorn...... actually not a bad idea....... but not now......

    @Kaputnik
You are getting significant better, well done.
    I like both.
    The bird is really cool.

If I'm allowed comment something (otherwise ignore the next lines).
The left eye (from the viewer) is too high.
I find it easier to be consistent with respect to the face features when I draw at least 2 help lines, a vertical one to ensure the eye, nose are in line and a horizontal eye line.
With respect to the hair, for me it looks too uniform, I find it easier to think about the hair as strains which have different values, from very light to very dark.
There are some really good hair tutorials on youtube.

    @Yazeh
You have to tell us about Finland, this sounds really interesting.

I somehow forgot to post the Grinch from my son (when I also drew one).
    So here it is:

Grinch (Junior) by Ptero Pterodactylus on DeviantArt

(Faber Castell Polychromos, Ecoline Marker, Tipp-Ex white)

And instead of Lloyd’s suggestion I made something else.
I have to use up the ink loaded in my pens for the guess the ink thread.
The ink geeks are too good that an ink will last longer than a few hours to be guessed.

So here is my "guess the ink" recycle piece.

The invitation in ink by Ptero Pterodactylus on DeviantArt

(Montblanc 142 - KM ….. Private Reserve Naples Blue, Faber Castell Osmia 223 - F ….. P.W. Akkerman Hofkwartier Groen, Faber Castell Polychromos)

I´ve drawn the picture with 2 fountain pens.
One loaded with Naples Blue and the other one with Hofkwartier Groen.
After doing the line art I applied a ink wash to get the basic tone values (+ white Polychromos).
Afterwards I cross hatched with the fountain pens again.
Last touch up´s were made with a dark polychromos to emphasize some shadows.

    Hi old Bloke,
actually I did not knew this.
I even googled it but could not find any evidence that this is documented.

Papa Smurf has red pants but I think you did not meant that.
Smurfs with red panties, sounds not bad, let’s see what I can do here.
I think about Smurfette wearing red, let me think about it and come back to you.

Thanks Ptero. If I objected to constructive criticism, I shouldn't post my pictures. And you're right, I see that unevenness with the eyes now that you point it out.

When I look at my previous attempt to draw the same subject, I see that I had the other eye too high, although there were many other reasons that I was unhappy with it. But perhaps I was trying unconsciously to compensate. Guide lines might have helped.

Hair can get very interesting to draw, particularly with the more complicated styles, and with different values according to the lighting. More to work on.

    You are welcome Kaputnik.

    @Yazeh
I see also improvements here, well done.
    May I ask you something?
Do you create a pencil underdrawing (to be erased afterwards)?
At least me the pencil first approach helps me to find the right lines.
After the pencil sketch you can draw your line art with confidence, and more clear.
In your drawings sometimes I have the impression that you were not satisfied with an outline and tried several attempts to make it right.
This can give a kind of messy look.
You might also can think about doing your cross hatching more selective.
Think about where is your light source, where it will cast shadows and where not. Where are your highlights.
For me they look too uniform distributed.

I love Sauna, actually my parents were actually also quite prude.
So I grew up also in an environment where nudity felt quite strange.
We never went to Sauna and also at home nudity was no topic, everybody was always all the time covered.
Actually I remember when I was about 18 and stayed overnight at my grandparents site when I entered the bathroom where my grandpa was naked.
He was really upset, and acted as something real bad happened.
Latest at that point of time I realized that there is something inherently wrong with the attitude in my family.

But after time I learned to have a natural relation to nudity and that there is nothing bad with it nor something to hide or shame.

I also discovered Sauna and first it felt strange to relax in the heat with unknown men and women.
Now I love Sauna, before the pandemic we were often at Spa´s and my son enjoy it since he was 6.
I tried from the beginning to give my son a natural relation to his and other bodies.

These days we only enjoy our own Sauna in the basement anymore.
We all also enjoy our new pool in the garden without textile boundaries

    @Lloyd
    Yes i see the point

And now on special request from "An old bloke" we clarify the question if smurfs wear red panties some time.
I googled it but could not find any evidence but the answer is yes the do sometimes.
Here we see smurfette wearing some.

I´m always happy helping to clarify questions and do special requests from our fellow geeks.

Your son is a lucky boy....

Sorry Yazeh, I didn’t knew that you have your own art teacher at home, I should only give advice when asked.
You are not alone, I think my wife also thinks I‘m nuts some times. 🤪

    Do your wife still draw/paint?
You could post something from her as well.

    I try my best.
Isn’t that what we all try to achieve for our children, to make it better than the generation before us…. at least try it.
    Thanks. 👍

I just finished another ink piece, this time a animal, no human, try to post it tomorrow.

Looking forward also to your next piece.

And I still have to use up the pens inked for "guess the ink"
I had a funny cartoon lobster in mind.
Drawn and hatched with FP, but after i finished I thought it could benefit from some additional color.
