Which is encouraging, except that Bob Ross never met me. Sometimes it seems that I make nothing but mistakes.

But I'll admit that sometimes, even though I see all sorts of things wrong with my drawings, and they never turn out quite the way I intend, there can be a sneaking sense of satisfaction, too.

Here are two of my accidents from this month so far. I tried scanning one rather than taking a photo of the sketchbook, even though that cut off a little bit from the right of the page.

My son and I love the Scary Harry books about the grim reaper Scary Harry and his friends.
The illustrations in the book are pure line art (and really good).

So i thought about creating a colored version of one character there in my own style.
This is what I came up with, Vincent the ghost bat in my style in pastel.
Of course I had to give him the right accessory.

But thank you for joining this thread. I hope we'll see more from you, and from others who may be hesitating.

Drawing anything at all is, I regret to say, just as hard as I thought it would be, for me. I'm struggling with faces, still, but need to struggle with other things as well, I know.

Regardless, here is a sketch with charcoal pencils and white Conté to start off the month. Neither the degree of realism nor the resemblance to the original that I want to achieve, but at least it's practice. And trying to make the braided hair look like braided hair was interesting.

I love old cars, but specially the American ones, from the 30's to the 80's. Also I like a lot rusty cars, trucks and other vehicles.
Now something different, my Honda Civic photo blend with a quick sketch:

I've been drawing from some photos of Native Americans, taken in the early 1900s. This one was from a picture of an Apache girl taken in 1906. I didn't really capture her likeness, or her evident unwillingness to have her picture taken, but perhaps I got something of her sadness.

I don't draw just people's faces, but that's what I seem to end up posting here.

I used charcoal pencils and vine charcoal for this one. Vine charcoal is really hard for me to control, and I just used it for the shading.
