I am not much fan of a landscape drawing, mostly because it's time consuming and I don't have the necessary techniques
Anyway, part of challenge, I decided to check some YouTube videos on how to draw fog.
So after a few hit and misses, here is the one worth showing:
    Paper is Canson Mixed Media
Inks are Noodler's Lexington Gray and Octopus White Polar Bear

A few other attempts at drawing fog with waterproof ink:

Paper is a Talens pocket notebook:

    Noodler's Lexington Gray 1:1

This was another attempt, with Lexington Gray and I believe Kala Scapolite
    But it wasn't misty enough.

Note: Paper is the same size, it's just the uploaded version, looks twice as big:
I like how the white ink creates texture on the paper.

    20241123_073121.jpg
    So, I applied several layer of Octopus White Polar Bear, to soften the edges and give that misty feeling;

Since 1985, the Art Museum of the Canton of Thurgau (Switzerland) has been housed in an 800-year-old Carthusian monastery, which was converted by the architects René Antoniol (1934-2017) and Kurt Huber (*1943).

There's an old joke about how to sculpt an elephant. You take a block of stone, and cut away everything that doesn't look like an elephant.

I have no plans to take up any kind of sculpting, and when I draw, my favorite subjects are people. Most of what I've been doing in November is face and figure drawing, but nothing that I'd care to show here. It's all practice, though.

It occurs to me that my methods of drawing people are a lot like that method of sculpting an elephant. I put a lot of graphite on paper and end up erasing most of it. Some of what gets erased are guide lines that were not meant to be left there anyway, but there are also plenty of mistakes.

Anyway, I took a quick break, and just drew an elephant. Compared to my people drawings, there are fewer erasures. Eagle 314 draughting pencil on newsprint paper.

As with inks and pens, it's interesting noting how pencils work on different papers. This is the same pencil as my last sketch, a vintage Eagle 314 draughting pencil. The paper is different, though, 98 lb. Canson mixed media paper. The same sketchbook I used for about half of my Inktober drawings.

Sometimes I get obsessed by trying to do a particular picture, despite repeated disappointment.

The pencil drawing in my previous post was based on a black and white photo of a young woman, which I would guess to be from the late 19th or early 20th century. I found it on someone's Pinterest page, and would acknowledge that with a link, but now I can't find it again.

I've tried multiple versions, none of them really what I want, but I repeat my mantra, "it's all practice".

I'm working on other things for now, but here are some recent tries. The outline pencil sketch on the left was to use with transfer paper to set things up on 7x10 inch sheets of watercolor paper. That's why I have the rectangular outline on it. The second from left was done with water soluble graphite. The other two were done with two separate sets of pan watercolors. I re-used watercolor paper that had other things on the reverse sides. I've been doing that a lot as I try to get back into watercolors. Still have to work on my drawing skills of course.

Merry Christmas (soon enough) everyone. I like the holiday themed drawings from Chistof, Catbert, and Penwash.

Regrettably, I'm just not a very Christmasy sort of guy, although I did do that one "Krampus" painting for the Inktober 52 thread. I've been working on figure drawing lately, but don't have anything that I'd care to show yet.

Contrasts in light and dark interest me very much, I get a lot of inspiration from black and white photos. Besides vintage photos, there are many worthwhile artists in this medium. I recommend the work of British photographer Lee Jeffries, which can be seen here.

I've done a lot of drawings based on his work, most of them not worth showing. I was not too dissatisfied with this one, though, although it's quite different from the original.

I did not post any of my sketches since July. But it didn't mean I have not done any doodling and sketching. I have selected some of my work, done in pencil, or gel pen, or fountain pen and water brush, or fountain pen and watercolor.

Some of them are made live outdoor in Jersey, and some are made from pictures either from web, either my pictures.

I did enjoy everybody else their little art, some of Ikntober entry were amazing!

    So, here we go:
