    "I meant to do that".

I'm tempted to say that sometimes, but it's rarely true. Yesterday I meant to draw a realistic portrait and instead drew a cartoon.

But it made me smile when I looked at it this morning, so what the heck.

I'm curious about those Waverly nibs, Ptero, how are they compared to Brause nibs?

    Thanks Yazeh for asking.
I assume your assumption for your question is that I used a Waverley dip nib, but I did not.
I know that the company also made dip nibs (Product name Waverley) and was more famous for their dip nibs, but I actually used a fountain pen from them with a Waverley gold nib.
So I canīt really compare it to Brause dip nibs (steel).

But I can tell you a bit about the pen.
I bought it about 9 years ago from ebay.
They sold quite a bunch of them as never out of stock pens and advertised them as flexible nib pens.
They said it was produced about 1940.
I know that the company was in business until 1964.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macniven_and_Cameron

The pen is an eyedropper, actually very light, made of plastic, has an ebonite feed and a 14ct gold nib.

    (Macniven & Cameron Waverley)

The pen is quite simple, the builidng quality is ok, but nothing special, I would call it a entry pen.
It has an engraving on the barrel "Waverley Cameron Made in Great Britain"

The nib has has the typical "Waverley" form, just like the steel dip nibs and is stamped with "Waverly 14ct".

The form was also patented, you can read about the nibs here:
    https://vintagepensblog.blogspot.com...erley-nib.html

The tipping of the nib is quite special compared to most other nibs.
At the end it has a kind of upturn.
The breather hole is not round (has the "Waverley" form)

Actually this pen is not one of my favorite ones.
It is very prone to burping and dripping (especially if it is not inked up completely).
So what I usually do before starting to write is to give it a wipe with a paper towel as a preventive action.
Otherwise it is usually too wet or even drip ink on the paper when starting to write.
Using a very dry ink might also help a bit.

When you keep continously writing itīs actually quite ok to write with it (just donīt make too long thinking breaks).
It also gives you quite ok line variation. I would say itīs more than semi-flex but in the lower full flex range.

..... ok, this now almost became a review of the pen

These pens were made by Burnham for Macniven & Cameron. They didn't sell well at the time and someone found and sold a quantity as New Old Stock some years ago. They were intended for export to hot countries where sacs degrade quickly. Mabie Todd made a similar eyedropper for the same purpose in the 1950s, called the Swan Safety Pen.

Not all of those leaf-shaped nibs are what is now called "Waverley" (note second 'e'). Some of the earlier ones are straight, without the tilted tip.

    Thanks eachan,

Learned something today, also that I should read more carefully, got the pen 9 years now and always wrote (and read) it wrong
I can imagine why they did not sell well.....

This time I have a pencil drawing with colored pencil accents.

Remember Ratface the servant of Magica De Spell?
In German his name is Nimmermehr and hers Gundel Gaukeley.

Recently another artist on DeviantArt drew a good picture of Hong Kong Phooey in Kung Fu attack pose:
    https://www.deviantart.com/aisudi/ar...rs-2-870892784

I really like the picture but thought, this guy needs a worthy opponent.

What is a hero without a respectable villain?

    Right..... Nothing.

So I thought about a suitable villain for her Hong Kong Phooey.
And this is what I came up with.

Ratface, a formidable villain, ready for fight, a master in self-taught Crane Kung Fu.

Which one of the 2 opponents will win the fight?

The newest drawing of my son using colored pencils.

Angry Cat (Junior) by Ptero Pterodactylus on DeviantArt

    (Faber Castell Polychromos)

Junglejim kindly sent me some samples.

    Thanks Jim

I really like Scribe Garnet, the color is great and it shades really good, it also behaves without any flaw.
A really good writing ink, for sure a recommendation worth.

It has also some water resistance (but not too much, just the right amount of it) which makes it a really good drawing ink as well.
I thought it is time to try a ink portrait again.
Drawn with fountain pen, applying a ink wash with a brush and adding highlights with white chalk to finish it.

Thanks Yazeh, Eachan for your kind words.
I already told my son and he is really happy to get such good feedback for his drawing

    @Yazeh
I did not noticed that yet, but now as you say it, yes possible.
And it would not surprise me that he is doing it in the opposite direction than me.
Most of the times he is refusing taking advices from his Dad.
When I say "A" you can almost be sure that he is claiming "no B"
I think this is part of his development.

    @Eachan
    Thanks a lot.
I miss Debīs participation on the board.
Hopefully she will consider participating again at some point of time.

Ptero, I've tried, and continue to try, a number of full figure drawings, both clothed and unclothed. Not ready to show any yet, as the combination of errors is too great, but that doesn't stop me from practicing. And it's helpful to see how more experienced artists, such as yourself, tackle the technical tasks involved. So keep posting.
