Working on this watercolor Doxie puppy for my friend’s planner. She carries one of those pocket planners at work, and it was recently stolen, and one of the things that was in it was a dachshund sketch I did for her a few years back. She was very upset about losing the planner, the money she had tucked into it, and the loss of my drawing…so I’m doing this for her new planner. It’s small, and I’ll laminate it on the laminating machine at work when it’s done. Reference photo from Pinterest.

Stolen while she was at work? That sort of thing sours the whole work environment, doesn't it? Anyway, excellent painting, even if, as I think you're implying, it's not completely finished.

That's just gorgeous - I'm sure she'll be thrilled (though the circumstances must be a bit distressing).

Yes, stolen at work. Stolen by someone who surely knew it was hers, which makes it even more hurtful. There are some rotten people in the world.

Very, very, nice, Igraine. The person for whom you did this is fortunate in her friends, if not in her co-workers.

Can I just call this an experiment?

Anyway, I had an afternoon with nothing better to do, and thought it came out looking rather "interesting".

I hope to see more of other people's work here again. In the meantime, here's a recent one of mine.

Living in Aotearoa (New Zealand) one hears stories of taniwha, water spirits who can take human form and fall in love and marry human beings. They can also appear in guises from sea monsters to small reptiles such as geckos. This is a taniwha nuinui, an ancient being rising angry from the depths, to wreak havoc: storm, flood, shipwreck, drowning.

Quick sketching outdoors can be fun, if your fingers aren't freezing.

The trick is to get the essence without too much precision or elaboration.

Here's another sketch from that old journal: a lady moose.

The close-up view is not strictly from life, as being that close to a moose, sketching, could prove injurious and perhaps fatal.
